$255.00
In stock

The Black Dragon V2 is extremely smooth with an enhanced low end and voicing. It adds a detailed warmth to high-end headphones, making it an excellent match for Grado, AKG K7##, Sennheiser HD800, and Focal Utopia.

Warm and musical, the Black Dragon is a perfect fit where a broad range of musical styles are played.

Dragon Audio Cables

Quality You Can Trust

Most stock headphone cables are made of poor, ultra-thin conductors that work as a bottleneck for sound. Poor geometries, no shielding, rubber jackets, and a whole host of other issues in OEM (stock) cables can limit the performance of the headphone driver in terms of clarity and definition.

Dragon Cables are handcrafted from quality materials in Moon Audio's offices in Cary, North Carolina. All of our cables are created with ultra pure, single-crystal silver and copper strands and engineered to provide the cleanest, most musical presentation. Our wire is void of impurities and crystalline boundaries, leaving nothing between you and your music.

Black Dragon Sound Signature

The Black Dragon is warm and smooth with a musical presentation. Copper strands enhance the body, shape, and immediacy of the music. The detail and expansiveness of the Black Dragon make it a flexible fit where a broad range of musical genres are played. It can also improve bass frequencies on bass-light headphones.

The smooth, musical quality makes it a perfect fit for headphones that tend to sound a bit edgy or bright. Despite its warmth, the Black Dragon does not have a laid back, lush sound. It is much closer to neutral, making it a very natural sounding cable.

Black Dragon Sound Signature

Cable Design

We use 4 x 21.5AWG Teflon insulated stranded conductors using pure single crystallized UP-OCC pure copper with 7N purity 99.99998%. This means more music, clarity and sound quality gets to your ears as purity in cable construction, cable design and quality of materials make a noticeable difference in the sound quality of your headphones.

Each conductor is made up of a special varying size stranding geometry. The copper stranding is mixed with Kevlar stranding to reinforce the conductor. Making it stronger overall and less prone to failure due to the harsh constant flexing a headphone cable receives.

The conductors are then surrounded by cotton and then a layer of Teflon tubing. The new v2 version is now also double shielded and placed in a polyethylene jacket for further protection.

The Headphone connectors are soldered directly to the conductors of the cable. The splicing method used by other cable companies using a stock cable's connectors is a poor method. We have developed many of the hard to find connection options utilizing plastic injection molded connectors. Great expense has been taken to bring as many hard to find connection systems for the most popular headphones. If you can't find the connection system you desire please contact us.

The wire is soldered to the connector with Cardas silver solder.

Pairs wonderfully with my Focal Elegias
Great cable. I am using a 10ft cable with a balanced XLR and a Klipsch Heritage headphone amp. The new cable adds depth to what was a somewhat mid/treble-heavy sound with the supplied cable. Now my headphones sound fantastic, almost audio perfection as far as I'm concerned. Great purchase. First class service.

Excellent Black Dragon
I needed a very good cable for my Focal Stellia and Drew adviced me to try the Black Dragon V2. And wow, that was a perfect match. The sound is very open and detailed, and a beautiful bass. It’s almost as the Stellia changed from being a closed back headphone to an open back. It’s amazing!
I compared the Black Dragon to my Kimber Axios CU, and the difference was huge. The soundstage shrimped, it was less bass and the magic was gone with the Kimber. I’ll never go back to the Kimber. I also own some Silver Dragons, but the Black is a better match with the Focal Stellia.
Highly recommend!

Black Dragon Headphone Cable V2 for AKG Q701
Bought my cable from Moon Audio about a month ago. Been using it now almost on a daily basis and I'm very pleased with the sound. I replaced the cable that came along with the AKG and the sound quality is significant different. The Black Dragon cable presents a wider, clearer and gives me more clarity in the sound stage. I'm happy with the replacement and can recommend an upgrade for this headphones.

Good cable for modern music genres.
A really handsome cable that is built solid, but stiff and unwieldy. To my ears, low ends are slightly elevated, but mids seemed a little recessed compared to stock HD800 cable. YMMV.

Makes a significant difference
I got this cable for the Sennheiser 820s and it improved the sound significantly over the stock cables. I use a Chord Hugo 2 as amp/dac and this configuration sounds really really good.

A wonderful match for my Focal Utopia headphones
I recently acquired this cable, as the one supplied by Focal as part of the Utopia bundle with the Questyle QP2R DAP was disappointingly short (4 feet) and flimsy. I drive my headphones using, in the main, my Chord Hugo2 headphone amp/ DAC. The results have been quite spectacular and the improvement in the sound quality astonishing. The black dragon cable produces a lovely warm sound without in any way detracting from the very detailed qualities of these superb headphones. I also feel there has been a marked improvement in the bass response without any hint of exaggeration. I am truly delighted with this cable.

Very well done Moon Audio!

Smooth Enjoyable Cable
I have purchased 2 Black Dragon Headphone Cables from Moon Audio of over the past year, most recently a balanced XLR to 2.5mm to connect a Questyle CMA600i Dac/Amp to Hifiman Edition X Version 2 headphones. Very warm and smooth. Captivating listening. Ears do not get "tired" from longer listening sessions. May try some more analytical/technical listening with the Silver Dragons for comparison but love the Black Dragon cables. Great to have Drew and Company there to help with advice and build cables to any needs. As Drew states "lost in the music", such is my life...

It's a cable
I've tried both the Black Dragon and Silver Dragon up against the DUM cable that came stock with my Mr. Speakers Ether C headphones. Now, obviously the Silver Dragon was going to be atrociously bright and I can't fault it on that. The Black Dragon though... now, it sounded better than its counterpart, but it most certainly did not improve over my stock cable. Both cables are way too bright-sounding for the Ether Cs, to the point where any bass frequencies that manage to squeeze out of the driver are not so much "tight" or "controlled" as they are "emaciated" and "fragile". Maybe this is a good fit for you if you have a very warm amplifier, or if you like a very analytical and miserable sound. Detail-wise, the only differences I heard were treble tones brought forward by the cables brighter tonal balance, and - credit where it's due - there was more air... probably due to the same reason. Soundstage-wise, I wouldn't say the soundstage was larger, just differently shaped. Possibly worse dynamic range becuase the low-end was so empty. Now, when I'm on a busy public bus, and getting more enjoyment out of a pair of middling IEMs than I am when I'm in the quite comfort of my home with my high-end headphones, something is really, really wrong. Manufacturers may cut corners, but they know the way that their headphones and headphone cables are supposed to sound. If you are happy to spend $300 dollars to "unveil" your HD 650s, good for you (by the way, you can get the same effect with a brighter headphone amp). As for me, I most certainly will not purchase Dragon headphone cables again.
