We teamed up with JH Audio, one of the most admired and sought-after IEM manufacturers in the world, on the design of this cable. The Black Dragon IEM V2 cable features a stranded, silver-plated copper design that marries the sonic strengths of our Silver Dragon IEM cables and our copper-based Bronze Dragon IEM cables. What this means for you is great detail and resolution from the silver, plus the full sound and enhanced bottom end from the copper. Compared to the V1 version, we find the midrange on the Black Dragon IEM V2 cable to be warmer without sounding too laid back, while maintaining the full sound spectrum and dimension. Most importantly, the powerful bottom end of the Black Dragon IEM V1 has been improved upon.
This new stranded, silver-plated copper design is different from the silver-plated tinsel wire used in the JH Audio stock JH cables. The purity and density of our conductors are far superior and much more expensive to design, engineer, and produce. Quality You Can Trust
Most stock headphone cables are made of poor, ultra-thin conductors that work as a bottleneck for sound. Poor geometries, no shielding, rubber jackets, and a whole host of other issues in OEM cables can limit the performance of the headphone driver in terms of clarity and definition.
Dragon Cables are handcrafted from quality materials in Moon Audio's headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. All of our cables are created with ultra-pure, single-crystal silver and copper strands and engineered to provide the cleanest, most musical presentation. Our wire is void of impurities and crystalline boundaries, leaving nothing between you and your music.
When designing the Black Dragon IEM V2 Cable, we looked for a way to provide the great detail and resolution of our Silver Dragon line and still maintain the full sound and enhanced bottom end of our Black Dragon line. We also needed to embrace these improvements in a cost-effective way so everyone can unleash their music with Dragon Cables.
This forced a new direction for Moon Audio in cable creation that included working with plated metals. We found that when we increased the quantity of plating to a 15-18% ratio, we were able to maximize both the sound characteristics of silver and copper in the Black Dragon. We feel this enhanced the sonic attributes and characteristics of the Black Dragon to its maximum potential.
The V2 boasts a stranded, silver-plated copper design that marries all the sonic strengths of our Silver and Black Dragon IEM cables. With some audio cables, adding silver-plated copper can make it sound harsh in the top frequency range. This is NOT the case with our Black Dragon, as the heavy silver plating provides a very smooth, detailed top end with a great sense of presentation. This is in large part due to the 15-18% ratio we landed upon during our design and testing phase.
We also found the midrange to be warmer and lush without sounding too laid back, yet it maintains the full sound spectrum and dimension. Most importantly, even the powerful bottom end of the Black Dragon IEM V1 has been improved upon. What is UP-OCC?
UP-OCC stands for Ultra Pure Ohno Continuous Casting (OCC). This is not a material but a way of extruding silver and copper to prevent any impurities and fractures in the crystalline structure of the wire. The wire is drawn very slowly to cast as an almost perfect single-crystal small-diameter conductor. The resulting purity and the size of the cast wire make a tremendous difference, and there is less damage to the near-perfect cast state. We find this UP-OCC process produces a very clean and close to neutral sound in our copper-based and silver-based cables.
Redesign of the JH Audio connections & IEM Sockets
The cable connections and IEM sockets for the JH Audio 4-pin connection style were redesigned by Moon Audio. They were designed for both Astell & Kern and JH Audio IEMs with the 4-pin connection, which included the Angie, Angie II, Rosie, Roxanne, Roxanne II, Layla, and Layla II as well as a bunch of newer models available. This 4-pin connection socket upgrade has improved the durability of the connections and sockets for long-term use and enjoyment. It is much more durable to provide the best possible rock-solid connection.
First, we improved the threaded locking section and the nut. We are now using anodized aluminum for durability and better tolerance. The male and female pins utilize a proprietary metal combination called ARCAP. It is essentially a high-yield copper-based metal that does not contain iron so it is not magnetic. It also has very high tensile strength and is resistant to chemical corrosion. This is very important for those of you who will use the cable and IEMs at the gym or on stage if you are in a band as it will be much more durable and resistant to flex failure from constant movement.
The pins are now also gold-plated, and the attenuator pod was improved to provide better tolerances and tracking. The improved markings on the cable help match left to right, and the attenuators are now recessed to prevent them from being accidentally altered. The pod shape is smoother, a new feature of all the overmolds.

- 2.5mm TRRS balanced gold straight plug for use with the balanced output of the Astell and Kern players, RAL players & ALO amps. The entire body is molded to prevent the face of the connector from shorting to chassis ground. This will eliminate issues of ground shorts..
- 3.5mm TRS single-ended gold straight connection for use with most common portable devices.
- 4.4mm TRRRS balanced gold straight plug for use with the balanced output of the Astell and Kern, Sony, and iBasso Digital Audio Players..

Connecting the Black Dragon IEM Cable
- R: Right Channel
- L: Left Channel
- Cable should always curve up from the connector
With the curve of the cable pointing upward, slide the connector with an "R" marking straight into the right IEM until flush with the shell. Repeat with the "L" marking and the left IEM.
