Black Dragon Headphone Adapter Cable
The Black Dragon Headphone Adapter Cable V2 extends or adapts with your Black Dragon V2 headphone cable. If extra length is needed or if you need to change terminations on the amplifier end, this is a great solution to save you money, time, and give you endless listening options for your headphone sessions. Adapter cables make it more versatile to do quick changes from one connection type to another. More and more connection types are becoming prevalent, thus making this a great solution.
Note: Minimum length for XLR cable is 1.5 feet. Minimum length for 1/4" cable is 1 foot. Please choose accordingly.
Quality You Can Trust
Most stock headphone cables are made of poor, ultra-thin conductors that work as a bottleneck for sound. Poor geometries, no shielding, rubber jackets, and a whole host of other issues in OEM cables can limit the performance of the headphone driver in terms of clarity and definition.
Dragon Cables are handcrafted from quality materials in Moon Audio's headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. All of our cables are created with ultra-pure, single-crystal silver and copper strands and engineered to provide the cleanest, most musical presentation. Our wire is void of impurities and crystalline boundaries, leaving nothing between you and your music.

Black Dragon Cable Design
Like the Blue Dragon Headphone cable, the adapter extension cable offers the same wire geometry. These adapters are utilized to create a more flexible connection system for your headphone audio system.
The Black Dragon can be used not only as a detachable cable for many varieties of headphones, but it can also be used to hack your headphones. We can be "hard-wired" to just about any headphone, such as Grado, Sennheiser, or AKG. You can also upgrade your existing headphones that have detachable cables with our Black Dragon. There are many connections to a variety of headphones to choose from on the menu above.
We use 4 x 21.5AWG Teflon insulated stranded conductors using pure single crystallized UP-OCC pure copper with 7N purity 99.99998%. This means more music, clarity, and sound quality gets to your ears as purity in cable construction, cable design, and quality of materials make a noticeable difference in the sound quality of your headphones.
Each conductor is made up of a special, varying-size stranding geometry. The copper stranding is mixed with Kevlar stranding to reinforce the conductor. Making it stronger overall and less prone to failure due to the harsh, constant flexing a headphone cable receives.
The conductors are then surrounded by cotton and then a layer of Teflon tubing. The new v2 version is now also double shielded and placed in a polyethylene jacket for further protection.
The Headphone connectors are soldered directly to the conductors of the cable. The splicing method used by other cable companies, which uses a stock cable's connectors, is poor. We have developed many of the hard-to-find connection options utilizing plastic injection-molded connectors. Great expense has been taken to bring as many hard-to-find connection systems for the most popular headphones. If you can't find the connection system you desire, please contact us.
The wire is soldered to the connector with Cardas silver solder.
What is UP-OCC?
UP-OCC stands for Ultra-Pure Ohno Continuous Casting (OCC). This is not a material, but a way of extruding silver and copper to prevent any impurities and fractures in the crystalline structure of the wire. The wire is drawn very slowly to cast as an almost perfect single-crystal small-diameter conductor. The resulting purity and the size of the cast wire make a tremendous difference, and there is less damage to the near-perfect cast state. We find that this UP-OCC process produces a very clean and close to neutral sound in our copper-based and silver-based cables.

Sound is clean, clear, rich, and warm. Little to no negative effect on sound quality. The extra length is nice, since it means I don't have to worry about running out of cable when I'm moving about. Though it is a bit heavier than I like, especially since it's being plugged into from a much lighter cable, but that just comes with the almost excessively-durable construction.Only complaint is about the 4.4mm female pentacon, which seems much less well-made than the rest of the cable. All I have to do is push the headphone cable into the adapter cable a little bit and it starts causing cut-outs or the like. There's nothing preventing the male connector from going in too far and causing the connections to be places that they shouldn't. As long as there's some slight tension on the cable or really just not putting pressure it's a non-issue, but it does show a single glaring weak point in the construction of the cable (when choosing the 4.4mm pentacon for the headphone end of the adapter cable). And since there's only one option for the 4.4mm female pentacon at the time I bought it, that is definitely worth docking a star over. This also could speak of longevity issues with that connector, but only time and use will say for sure at this point.Still, overall a quality cable. As long as you're okay with the 4.4mm female pentacon being not quite up to par, or if you're using a different connector on the headphone side, I do recommend it. Especially if you like a slightly warmer sound…
