Dragon Audio Cables

Quality You Can Trust

Most stock headphone cables are made of poor, ultra-thin conductors that work as a bottleneck for sound. Poor geometries, no shielding, rubber jackets, and a whole host of other issues in OEM (stock) cables can limit the performance of the headphone driver in terms of clarity and definition.

Dragon Cables are handcrafted from quality materials in Moon Audio's offices in Cary, North Carolina. All of our cables are created with ultra pure, single-crystal silver and copper strands and engineered to provide the cleanest, most musical presentation. Our wire is void of impurities and crystalline boundaries, leaving nothing between you and your music.

Black Dragon Sound Signature

The Black Dragon is warm and smooth with a musical presentation. Copper strands enhance the body, shape, and immediacy of the music. The detail and expansiveness of the Black Dragon make it a flexible fit where a broad range of musical genres are played. It can also improve bass frequencies on bass-light headphones.

The smooth, musical quality makes it a perfect fit for headphones that tend to sound a bit edgy or bright. Despite its warmth, the Black Dragon does not have a laid back, lush sound. It is much closer to neutral, making it a very natural sounding cable.

The Premium Difference

Premium Dragon Cables offer the same quality construction as the standard line, featuring UP-OCC 99.99998% pure conductors and matching cable designs with a few upgrades. Cardas Silver Solder is replaced with Mudorf MSolder SUPREME Silver-Gold mix at every connection point, and premium Furutech Rhodium connectors are included to enhance the look, feel and listening pleasure of all your hifi music sessions. When you are trying to squeeze out every last percentage point of performance, the Premium version makes sense. The Furutech Top Line connectors are quite simply the best made, and every point of signal saturation makes a difference.

Is there a night and day difference between the sound quality of the standard and premium? No. Is the Premium the best of the best? Yes. These cables are meant for cream-of-the-crop headphones where every detail makes a difference in bringing you closer to audio nirvana.

Cable Design

Each conductor is made up of a special varying size stranding geometry. The copper stranding is mixed with Kevlar stranding to reinforce the conductor. Making it stronger overall and less prone to failure due to the harsh constant flexing a headphone cable receives. The conductors are then surrounded by cotton and then a layer of Teflon tape. "The air and separation of the musicians and instruments were more noticeable. Vocals became crisper and the transparency increased. I could hear better tonality with the instruments...I forgot about the cables and just enjoyed the music."

Really improves the sound quality and lower end.
Loved this headphone for it's space and top end articulation. It really needed more defined low end and more warmth. The black cable really improved this and made a good headphone great. Highly recommended even at the price point. The improvement is not small. Break in is long per other comments.....well north of 100 hours....but well worth the wait.

Almost perfect
I'm not an audiophile, but from my "average" ears, this cable refined my HD800. I knocked off one star because the connector to each side of the headphones don't have a distinctive "click" when connecting. It's probably not in issue but would have been nice to hear that satisfying click to make sure it's connected. Also, the 1/4 inch plug seems like it can be unscrewed from the cable itself. I'm not sure if this is a defect on my unit or by design.

Well worth the money. Really amazed at how it brought out the low end.
At first I was hesitant because of the cost but I'm so glad I decided to go through with it. It really livened up the low end and some mids. I had music playing on it for 3 days straight to help break it in and I'm really really impressed with this cable. I'll never even think about going back to the standard one. Shipping was fast and customer support from moon-audio is top-notch. If you're on the fence about buying it just go ahead and do it... You'll not regret it.

Just what the doctor ordered for HD800
I bought the Black Dragon Premium V2 balanced cable in an attempt to tame the notorious treble peak on my HD800 headphones. The black Dragon Premium V2 is very successful in fixing this problem without having to mod your headphones. It ends up being much more listenable for long periods of time than the stock cables, albeit with a slight loss of 3-d imaging compared to the stock cables.

This is a very acceptable tradeoff for the HD-800 in my opinion. Highly recommended!

An Addendum
An addendum to my previous review: one of the major differences between the standard and premium Black Dragons I failed to note is that recordings of lesser quality are far more enjoyable with the premium. With the standard, I couldn't enjoy anything less than 24 bit 48khz (of course, this is system dependent, so I'm not claiming my experience, in this respect, will be yours)--preferably at least 96khz, but ideally 192khz. The premium is much more forgiving: 44khz is thoroughly pleasant. All recording qualities sound better in most respects, but I'm intrigued by the lower quality recordings. In part, the difference is attributable to the improved imaging. If you have a lot of lower quality recordings, like CDs, the premium is definitively the way to go. There's a certain something to the premium with rhodium/carbon fiber Furutech connectors--I wouldn't go so far as to say the premium Black Dragon consistently creates a 3-D image: most of it occurs along a forward arc from ear to ear, and in the center of your head (that's kind of 3-D, I guess). But I'll have occasional moments of listening when pieces of the music seem to come from below, above, or even from behind.

Excellent Service and Product
I bought a few cables from this shop recently. Their service and products are phenomenal!

I order headphone cables for my new Sennheisier H800S to pair with HDVD 800 amp. With their cables, it brings out the best of the sound quality. Bass are tight with clarity along with very clear high frequency sound as well.

I listen to some of the high definition classical music with different type of cables. Clearly, their products are the winner. Although the price is a little on the high side to my standard but they are my best audio equipment investment thus far.

Definite improvement to stock HD 800 cable
These cables enhanced lower frequencies and mid range in a more detailed and dynamic way. Noticed top end improvements in resolution too.

I'm using a custom, high end solid state headphone amp with Mac Book Pro and Audio nirvarna as source.

The Cable is very attractive and resists tangling well.

Great group of folks over at Moon Audio. I recommend these cables to anyone considering.

A great sounding cable and probably the best to pair with the HD800s
This cable gave the HD800s a boost in the lower frequencies. Not at the expense of anything. It does not mud the sound at all as some other cables may do. You get a well defined bass that you can hear clearly and that is very pleasant to your ears.

A powerful bass has never been and was never intended to be this can's main focus. But If your ears would appreciate a bit more bass then this is a very good choice.

The overall resolution and imaging also improved, compared to the stock cable. It tamed the treble a bit as well. Not nearly to the point of the HD800s getting dark, just to a level where they are more comfortable to listen to. Listening fatigue is never a problem with this cable paired with the Senns.

It simply is a great fit with this headphone, and another great sounding cable from Moon Audio.

Thank you, Drew!

Hi, I have a HD800S and I'm searching the perfect cable for it. In your very good YouTube video from 2013 you recommend the Black Dragon V2 Premium Cable, because the HD800 can be "too analytic" or "has a little bit less bass". The V2 Premium "fixes these problems" ... fine. But now there is HD800S existing, which have these "fixes build in" (often described in reviews). So my question is:
- do you still/also recommend the Black Dragon V2 Premium even for the HD800S or
- is now the time for a (new) "Silver Dragon V3 Premium for HD800S" (which doesn't exist so far ... I think) ???

BEST ANSWER: I have the black dragon v2 cable for my hd800s headphones and it has made a very big difference in the bass response, it didn't enlarge the bass response but more it cleaned it up, doesn't sound as muddy.

Best I can say is the difference I heard between the Sennheiser cables and the black dragon. Listening to Beethoven's violin concerto in second movement there is a point that the bass viol is being plucked, with the Sennheiser cable I hear the bass note, with the black dragon cable I actually hear the plucking sound.

I am not sure if this helps but I feel this change in cables was definitely for the better.
