The D1 is the first-ever dynamic driver headphone to use Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) technology.
Sparked by an idea eight years ago to utilise Thin-Ply Carbon in headphone design, and furthered by extensive experimentation and refinement, the D1 is the result of HEDD’s 40 years of acoustic expertise, in collaboration with Composite Sound of Sweden—specialists in the design and manufacture of cutting-edge audio diaphragms.
The finished product is a headphone that redefines what a dynamic driver can be.

What is TPCD?
Thin-ply carbon (TPC) is not ordinary carbon fiber. Composed of ultra-thin layers of carbon, precisely aligned and bonded, TPC is prized for its exceptional stiffness-to-density ratio, low mass, and resilience. As such, it has become the material of choice for extreme demands—from the chassis of Formula 1 cars to NASA’s Mars helicopter, Ingenuity.
In our D1 headphones, TPC becomes something new: TPCD. A diaphragm so precisely engineered that it controls resonances on a structural basis, eliminating the need for any traditional damping materials at the diaphragm level, and allowing faster, cleaner, and more accurate motion across the audible spectrum.
