Air Pressure Exchange (Apex) is a patented vent that releases air pressure in a sealed ear canal all while retaining standard IEM levels of isolation; enabling musicians and music enthusiasts to listen more comfortably for longer. This venting alleviates listener fatigue and allows for a much more realistic soundstage. Apex comes in three module variations for U12t: mX, m15 and m20.
Tubeless In-Ear Audio (tia) is a patented IEM design methodology that aims to reduce unwanted resonance and distortion for a transparent and lifelike sound signature. The tia system is comprised of three major elements: open balanced armature tia drivers, the tia single-bore design, and tia acoustic chambers. U12t features two major elements of the tia system: the tia driver and the tia single-bore design.
Linear Impedance Design (LID) is a patented circuit that corrects the non-linear electrical resistance of the multiple driver-sets comprising this 12 driver IEM. Varying source amplifier output impedance in devices like smartphones, body packs, DAC/amps, and DAPs typically results in varying frequency response across them, depending on the increase in resistance. Restoring proper interaction with the source and preserving the desired sound signature enables a consistent reliable sound.

When it comes to design, 64 Audio always hits the mark. Their universal IEMs exceed all expectations of fit and comfort, leading you to second-guess whether you're truly wearing a UIEM and not a custom. Anyone familiar with wearing and using universal IEMs knows the struggle of finding the perfect fit and achieving a strong seal. In the same way that no two ears hear alike, they're also not shaped alike. I've been through the ringer with IEMs, testing and trying different ear tips, cables, and insertion techniques, only to continuously fall short of the perfect fit. Take my word for it, if this sounds like you and you haven't tried 64 Audio IEMs yet, you should!
The entire 64 Audio Universal IEM collection sports the same kidney-shaped ergonomic form. Where they differ is in faceplate design and chosen materials.
The U6t is sleek and simple. It might not have the fancy faceplates of the higher-end models like the Volür or Fourté, but its black and gray aesthetic is timeless. The U6t's matte gray shell was heavily influenced by the 64 Audio U18s IEMs, serving an understated look that's fingerprint-free. The classic black faceplate is rounded, creating a bubble-like effect that you can almost peer into and see the 64 Audio logo nestled underneath. Each IEM (left and right) features the 64 Audio logo and a 2-pin termination.
The U12t's design is elevated with an all-silver aesthetic and an electroformed stainless steel faceplate chip. The matte silver aluminum shell, light gray faceplate, and silver trim tie in the stock m20 apex module for an effortlessly chic look. Included with both IEMs are a slew of accessories. 64 Audio is one of the few manufacturers including intentional accessories beyond the standard foam ear tips. With each IEM you'll find the following: A 64 Audio premium leather case, a 3.5mm black IEM cable, TrueFidelity foam ear tips (S, M, L), SpinFit silicone ear tips (S, M, L), Silicone ear tips (S, M, L), an IEM cable, apex modules (m20, m15, mX), a cleaning tool, a cable clip, and a branded sticker.
The cable clip, commonly used by audio pros sporting custom IEMs, keeps the cable from getting caught and damaging the IEM jacks, and the cleaning tool will help remove build-up and debris that can potentially reach the IEM driver. The ear tips, however, are one of my personal favorites. A common theme among 64 Audio is intentionality–these ear tips are intentionally crafted to deliver the best possible listening experience.
The TrueFidelity ear tips are made out of a unique foam blend that molds easily to your ear and doesn't overly accentuate the top end and alter the sound quality. The SpinFit ear tips are a crowd favorite because of their extreme comfort, easy placement, and ability to stay in place for long listening sessions. Lastly, 64 Audio includes silicone ear tips that they say provide an incredibly accurate sound reproduction.
Sound
U6t IEM
The U6t IEM is a balanced IEM through and through. It's natural, articulate, and incredibly lifelike with exceptional timbre reproduction. Many IEMs aim to deliver a realistic presentation, but fall short. The U6t is the exception, not the rule. It's tuned for the discerning audiophile who wants the most accurate reproduction of their favorite songs. The midrange is musical with a heavy emphasis on instrumentation, imaging, and layering, while the upper mids provide excellent clarity without any sibilance.
Female and male vocals are textured and full of life. The iconically ethereal vocals of Taylor Swift danced circles around my head in her song Daylight. They were airy yet smooth, and the treble posed no risk of fatigue when she hit high notes. The soundstage is moderately sized, neither too immersive nor wide. It has enough depth that you can sense instrument location, but it doesn't wrap around your head and deliver you that "in your head sound."
Given its natural sound signature, the U6t IEM isn't a bass monster–in fact, it's quite the opposite. The mid-bass is alive and present in high-energy and hip-hop tracks where percussion is the focal point. It delivered a quick, punchy bass response that emphasized the instruments it needed to without delivering an overly impactful, powerful low-end. Very complementary to the overall tonality.
U12t IEM
With 12 balanced armature drivers, the U12t is technically precise with incredible detail retrieval and an immersive sound quality. It mirrors the U6t with its natural sound reproduction and balanced tonality, but steals the show with its midrange musicality. The chorus of Weston Estate's song So Good opens up with a funkadelic melody that had me instantly bopping my head. The tighter soundstage of the U12t delivers that "in your head" experience where the lines between reality and fantasy are crossed. As a warm and musical listener, I'm partial to an immersive sound, especially with pop and indie songs.
The bass response of the U12t is quick and smooth. It's impactful and visceral without being bloated or overwhelming. As a basshead, I approve. Female and male vocals are rich and lush, really honing in on the midrange magic that transports you to another dimension. Detail retrieval, instrument separation, and imaging–check!
Which IEM is right for you?
Both the U6t IEM and U12t IEM are strong in their own regard. The U6t is natural and detailed, perfect for those who enjoy acoustic, jazz, classical, and string genres. The U12t is detailed and immersive with subtle warmth and musicality. It flexes its sonic muscle with hip-hop, pop, classic rock, and high-energy genres. The choice between the two comes down to personal preference. If you lean toward the analytical listener who values micro details and clarity above all else, the U6t might suit you best. Warm and musical listeners who prefer to spend their time getting lost in the music may enjoy the U12t more.

Apex Modules
Both IEMs feature 64 Audio's Apex Modules. These tiny interchangeable modules afford you the luxury of having multiple IEMs without purchasing more than one. 64 Audio has four apex modules: mX, m12, m15, and m20. The U6t and U12t IEMs come with the mX, m15 apex module, and m20 modules (the m20 is the stock module for both IEMs).
Here's a breakdown of what the apex modules do: Essentially, the apex modules allow you to adjust pressure relief, noise isolation, bass attenuation, and mix width. The mX module achieves the most open and transparent audio experience by reducing ambient noise isolation to -10dB. It transforms bass-heavy earphones into a mastering-grade IEM with a very resolved sound signature.
The m20 module comes standard with most 64 Audio IEMs featuring apex modules. It provides roughly -20dB of noise isolation, retaining the most low-frequency energy and tight center imaging. The m15 module features a combination of dual ambient ports and modified internals to achieve -15dB isolation. It allows for slightly more ambient sound than the m20 and helps tame the bass while maintaining excellent timbre and high frequency reproduction.
Want to enjoy some classical compositions? Switch out the m15 for the mX module. Not getting the instrument separation you desire? Switch to the m20 module. It's that easy. No frills, no fuss.
