Chimera is by far our most technically advanced and sonically powerful release to date; incorporating a new, advanced nine-driver configuration, “quad-brid” technology blending four, cutting-edge driver technologies to elicit the best in texture, dynamic resolution, imaging, and a deep sense of sonic engagement. The Chimera pushes the sonic boundaries of what is possible in a wired earphone.
Chimera is Campfire’s first IEM to incorporate bone conduction and electrostatic transducer technology, as well as our new 10mm True-Glass Dynamic Driver. These three technologies are accompanied by three premium balanced armatures: one dual-diaphragm mid-frequency BA + two high-frequency dedicated BAs.
In terms of build and exterior finish, Chimera matches its cutting-edge internals with premium materials that are visually striking, lightweight, and resilient. Instantly catching the eye is Chimera’s unique faceplate, made from a unique carbon fiber-brass damascus material; ‘bird’s eye’ patterned layers of brass folded into carbon fiber and CNC machined to reveal different gradients and patterns. This creates a unique ‘fingerprint’ for each set of Chimera and a shimmering luster as light catches the carbon fibers known as chatoyance.
Chimera also comes with two options of housing color, offering a gold or black version of its electroplated PVD billet CNC magnesium shell. This material was carefully selected not only for its looks, but also for its increased capacity in carrying the deep low frequencies of Chimera’s bone conduction driver.

Design
Campfire Audio is no stranger to standing out. In fact, they've seldom blended in, and that's what makes them one of the leaders in the IEM market. From the off-the-shelf product names and wildly vivid packaging to the unique shell designs and slew of accessories, I eagerly sit at the edge of my seat when I hear rumblings of a new product release.
The Chimera enters the lineup as the company's flagship universal IEM, so my bar was set pretty high, and I was pleasantly surprised when the box arrived at my desk. The packaging wasn't cardboard like previous models or plastered with artwork and vivid colors. It was a sturdy matte black gift box with a magnetic closure, minimalist with Chimera's large print and eye-popping gold detailing that was sophisticated and sexy. It looks luxurious and ultra-premium, high-end in every sense of the word, which is exactly what you expect from a flagship IEM. That theme continued on the inside, where the IEMs sat perfectly positioned in the middle for you to see.
When it comes to shell designs, Campfire has always drawn outside the lines, pushing the boundaries of what's geometrically possible. Sharp corners, polyhedron figures, and housing shapes that make you question whether they'll fit are anything but typical–but Campfire Audio has mastered the art of the unexpected. I remember the first time I saw one of their IEMs and thought to myself, there's no way this will fit comfortably in my ears, given my tumultuous relationship with IEM fit. But that's the thing, you'd think it wouldn't fit or be comfortable, but every single CA IEM I've tried has blown me away.
The Chimera sports a boxy rectangular shape that's thick and substantial, but it fits like a glove. It's ergonomic in practice, sitting flush and secure despite its unconventional silhouette. The magnesium housing makes it feel lightweight in your ear. The Chimera's housing is available in two colors: black and gold. Both feature a matte black faceplate with a carbon fiber-brass damascus lid, which is essentially layers of brass folded into carbon fiber and CNC machined to reveal a unique blend of shapes and gradients. It resembles hardwood grain, and each Chimera has its own special fingerprint with no two sets being the same. Campfire rounds out the physical design with custom lid ventilation, a machined brass nozzle, and standard 2-pin connections.
Now let's get into what comes with the Chimera, because there's a lot. The most notable accessory, in my humble opinion: an included hardshell case. It's beautiful and unlike anything I've ever come across. Campfire Audio has created cases like this before, so while it's new to me, it's not new to them. It's a black with a gold zipper and Campfire's logo tastefully etched on the front. It reminds me of a jewelry travel case. Not the black display cases the jewelry comes in when you buy it, but an aftermarket accessory you can buy that's gained popularity over the last five years. They're structured with interior compartments and typically feature a zipper closure.
The Chimera's case follows a nearly identical design: Incredibly sturdy with a rock-hard outer shell. Open the zipper, flip the lid of the case, and you'll find a built-in display stand featuring a round bobbin-like piece–reminds me of a pop socket that doesn't retract–to safely coil and store the IEM cable, and two L-shaped compartments with a recessed hole to place the IEM nozzle into for a snug, secure fit. They've designed the inside to store your IEMs with the cable attached, but that's ultimately personal preference. On the inside of the lid sits a mesh sleeve to hold ear tips, cleaning tools, and any additional accessories. And if that's not enough for you, the interior part with the compartments comes out. You can pop out the insert and place it upright using the stand on the back. I mean, does it get any cooler than that? I'm honestly blown away by how ingenious the entire case is.
Oh, and before I forget, the case is leather too! Its durability is immediately evident-built to withstand the rigors of travel, commuting, and daily use without showing signs of wear. It's cleverly designed for everyday use, and its build quality will withstand years of use. For something smaller and more discreet, Campfire also includes its Breezy Bag Micro two-pocket mesh pouch in burgundy. Throw it into the larger case or carry it on its own.
Alongside the awesome case, the Chimera comes with three types of ear tips, each in small, medium, and large: standard foam ear tips, standard silicone ear tips, and Campfire's exclusive new High & Clear traction silicone ear tips. I have been plagued with IEM fit problems since the day I started using them. Ear tips have always been a point of contention for me, so much so that I sought out a special, ultra-thin silicone tip that I exclusively use after many months of trial and error. When I test out IEMs, I still use the included accessories, whether I like it or not, but I always revert to my trusted pair for everyday use. So, naturally, I thought to myself, Will the high & clear ear tips be my Hail Mary?
Opening up the ear tip's dedicated case–yes, it comes in its own tiny clear case–I already had a good feeling about them based on looks and feel alone. They're thinner than your standard silicone ear tips, just like my favorite ear tips are–another good sign–and grippy. Hence the "traction" in the name. I carefully placed each IEM in my ear, slipped the cable up and over, and gave them one good twist to get that seal. I immediately noticed how grippy the ear tips are. I didn't need to give them an extra twist or do any additional adjusting. Once they were in my ears, they were in there to stay.
Campfire Audio, if you're reading this, I may need a pair (or two or three) of your High & Clear ear tips because they are phenomenal! You may have to come here and pry them out of my hands, that's how much I love them. All jokes aside, I will be giving them back. No hogging over here! I wore these ear tips during the entirety of my listening sessions, and I had no problems whatsoever. The cable wrapped snuggly behind my ears, I could drink, eat a snack, and walk around without breaking the seal or having to fidget with them. 12/10 stars in my book.
Now the included cable also deserves a special mention, because at flagship-level pricing, you're not getting a generic stock cable. The Valence-6 Cable was thoughtfully crafted for the Chimera by ALO Audio. It features six conductors–four high-purity copper conductors paired with two 50/50 pure copper/SPC conductors–standard .78 2-pin connectors with recessed sockets, and lightweight, durable aluminum hardware. Not only is the cable constructed for reliable performance, but it also looks the part too, with its bright copper color and black details. It comes with a balanced 4.4mm termination, which is incredibly versatile for any listening scenario.
Sound
It's been a busy week of testing over here, so I had the pleasure of pairing the Chimera IEMs with several DAPs, DACs, and amplifiers. First up was iFi Audio's newest DAC/Amp, then it was the OG iFi Audio Gryphon DAC/Amp, the Astell&Kern SP4000 DAP, and lastly the Astell&Kern SP3000T DAP. The Chimera handled each of these devices like a champ. Each one efficiently drove them without any problems, and the synergy between the Chimera and each source was immediately apparent–the IEM's effortlessly musical sound quality complemented each one.
The secret behind the Chimera's success lies in its driver configuration, which I dive into in the Features section. Each internal component is chosen for specific aspects of the presentation, be it low-end presence, midrange emotion, and airy high frequencies. Shuffling through my music library on Qobuz, I got to experience the reward of each one of those components' hard work.
The low-end is where I like to spend most of my time, seeking out songs specifically for their bass response, so I wasted little to no time getting acquainted with the Chimera's bass. Travis Scott's song HIGHEST IN THE ROOM features a prominent sub-bass throughout the entire track. It's thumpy and visceral, and that's exactly what the Chimera delivered. The sub-bass had enough weight to it to deliver a visceral response–shoutout bone conduction–that was tasteful, not overwhelming. It was articulated accurately without being overemphasized to the point of fatigue. The mid-bass hits quickly with a punch. It's tight and controlled. Campfire describes the bass response as powerful and tactile, and I'd say that's excellently put.
The Chimera's soundstage is surprisingly wide. In fact, Campfire says it's the widest and most precisely imaged in their range. Emotive ballads from Lana Del Rey were sweet and airy. I could close my eyes and picture her on stage with a full orchestra behind her. Lana's rich vocals in her track Cinnamon Girl were reproduced beautifully. The emotion behind her lyrics was tangible, and the soft-spoken nature of her vocals was articulated with an airiness, as if they were weightless. If you're familiar with her vocals, then you know she tends to whisper some of the lyrics in this je ne sais quoi fashion that feels effortless. The Chimera's top-end captured the hiss of each S as it rolled off her tongue without any sibilance. If I listened intently, I could count each breath she took between each lyric line. That's the level of detail retrieval the Chimera has.
The Chimera's superpower? Its ability to reproduce music authentically without being overly warm or harshly analytical. The overall sound signature strikes a rare balance–It doesn't artificially color the sound by adding a lush haze to midrange vocals or a headache-inducing bass response. Its dynamic range allows the music to show up as it is. As it was meant to be heard. And here's what I mean by that. A song I've listened to over a hundred times, WALKING AWAY by Justin Bieber, pops up next on my queue. I start listening, keep working, and don't think much of it until about 30 seconds in, when I notice background vocals I haven't heard before. I think it's just a fluke and carry on, until it happens again, and again. Missing one or two sets of background vocals is one thing, but to hear the song in a completely new light, as if it were my first time, is no accident at all. That's by design. The Chimera pulled out those vocals that were seemingly nonexistent to me before and made them hard to miss. That's a huge nod to the IEM's soundstage and ability to clearly present every aspect of a track naturally.
It's versatile enough to handle the intimacy of a jazz quartet or classical composition, while delivering power to hip-hop tracks and EDM hits. The dynamic sound it produces scales convincingly across genres in a way that even the best earbuds simply cannot match. Whether you're a critical listener looking to pick out the fine details in your favorite acoustic tracks or a music lover like myself who wants something they can bop their head to, the Campfire Audio Chimera IEMs deliver a balanced, musical sound quality.

The Campfire Audio Chimera IEMs are what I like to lovingly refer to as the Swiss Army Knife of hi-fi gear. Campfire really pulled out all the stops here, making it their first IEM to incorporate bone conduction, an electrostatic transducer, and True-Glass dynamic driver technology into a single earphone. It's arguably their most ambitious driver configuration, and every component inside has been chosen and engineered to work harmoniously. It also sets a new benchmark at its price point for what a hybrid IEM can realistically offer–performance that rivals custom-fit monitors costing significantly more.
At the heart of the Chimera's low-end performance is the belle of the ball and her date: a 10mm bone conduction driver working alongside a 10mm True-Glass dynamic driver. The bone conductor is embedded in a custom-engineered housing pocket within the shell–a deliberate design choice–that maximizes surface contact, allowing the driver's vibrations to transmit directly through the shell itself. That's what gives you the physical, tactile bass response that conventional dynamic drivers simply can't replicate.
Supporting that is the True-Glass driver, developed in partnership with Glass Acoustics Innovations and crafted from specialized alkali glass processed by Nippon Electric Glass in Japan. It's the world's only glass dome dynamic driver, and its unique structural properties allow it to remain fast and accurate even as it handles extended, textured low frequencies. This is what I mean when I say Campfire Audio pushes the envelope. Backing the driver is a targeted pressure valve, which equalizes air pressure on both sides of the diaphragm for more precise and even movement.
Moving to the midrange and upper frequencies, the Chimera deploys a dual diaphragm balanced armature driver that adds sonic richness and weight without sacrificing the speed and accuracy that BA drivers are praised for. Two additional high-frequency balanced armature drivers contribute clarity and accuracy. Rounding out the presentation, four electrostatic super-tweeters extend the Chimera's treble high-frequency ceiling with shimmer, air, and exceptional precision–performing at a level that puts Sony's best consumer earbuds and competitors like Meze's flagship offerings to shame in pure high-frequency extension.
Holding it all together is a thoughtfully assembled signal chain. A hybrid vintage ceramic-film capacitor aids driver cohesion, seamlessly blending the output of the Chimera's frequency-divided driver assemblies. At the nozzle, a "Master Track" tuning damper serves as a final-stage adjustment before that sweet music reaches your ears. The combination of these nine drivers, each selected for its distinct sonic character, further reflects Campfire Audio's commitment to exquisite high-fidelity sound. I can only imagine the R&D that went into crafting this IEM. Whatever magic spell they concocted to put this one together clearly worked.
For those who spotted the Chimera at CanJam and were waiting on the pre-sale announcement, the wait was well worth it. This is the kind of IEM that earns its buzz.
