Experience the unmatched dynamic resolution from Campfire Audio's most technically advanced IEMs to date, the Chimera 9-Driver Flagship Universal IEMs. Incorporating a new, advanced nine-driver configuration and quad-brid technology blending four cutting-edge driver technologies, the Chimera IEMs push the sonic boundaries of what is possible in a wired earphone.
The Chimera matches its cutting-edge internals with premium external materials that are visually striking, lightweight, and resilient. Instantly catching the eye is Chimera’s unique faceplate, made from a carbon fiber-brass damascus material; ‘bird’s eye’ patterned layers of brass folded into carbon fiber and CNC machined to reveal different gradients and patterns. This creates a unique ‘fingerprint’ for each set of Chimera and a shimmering luster as light catches the carbon fibers known as chatoyance.
Whether it's the striking finish that catches your eye or the technical prowess of a 9-driver configuration, the Chimera Universal IEMs sit at the pinnacle of Campfire Audio's lineup. Enjoy unmatched texture, dynamic resolution, imaging, and a deep sense of sonic engagement–the hallmarks of a flagship, reference-grade In-Ear Monitor.
Four Technologies, One Sound: Inside the Chimera's Nine Driver
The Chimera stands out in Campfire Audio's lineup as the first IEM to incorporate bone conduction and electrostatic transducer technology, as well as a new 10mm True-Glass Dynamic Driver. These three technologies are accompanied by three premium balanced armatures: one dual-diaphragm mid-frequency BA + two high-frequency dedicated BAs.
Here's how it all works:
Bone Conduction Low Driver
Embedded into the Chimera's full CNC electro-plated PVD magnesium shell for improved resonance and conduction, creating a visceral feel and low-end impact.
10mm True Glass Dynamic Low/Mid Driver
Featuring this truly unique dynamic driver from Glass Acoustic Innovations–which has a patent on the world's only glass dome dynamic driver–the Chimera's 10mm True Glass Dynamic Driver is engineered for performance. The true glass dome is made from Nippon Electric Glass Company in Japan and features a highly specialized alkali glass that has been processed for strength and acoustic performance.
An embedded pressure valve is incorporated to improve the overall performance of the Chimera's True Glass Dynamic Driver by tuning frequency response and allowing even diaphragm movement by removing air pressure build-up behind the driver.
Dual Diaphragm Mid-Frequency Balanced Armature
Advanced Balanced Armatures with dual diaphragms increase richness while maintaining the speed and high level of detail that's characteristic of BA drivers.
Two High-Frequency Balanced Armatures
Custom double high-frequency Balanced Armature drivers reproduce immense mid-high frequency clarity and accuracy, balancing the high-impact physicality of Chimera's low frequencies with spacious imaging and breath.
Quad Electrostatic Super-Tweeters
Extending the Chimera's high frequencies, four electrostatic super tweeters add shimmer, air, and clarity, moving with incredible precision to reproduce cymbals, reverb, delay trails, and micro detail.
Layered into the Chimera's nozzle is a final-stage tuning damper that adds a cohesive overall tuning adjustment at the last stage of output.
Built to Be Unmistakable
Carefully selected materials like billet CNC PVD magnesium for the shell, a new carbon fiber-brass damascus lid, and a brass CNC nozzle make up the Chimera's physical design, contributing to the overall sonic presentation. The Chimera is available in two housing colors, offering a gold or black version depending on your personal tastes.
A highly unique, durable, and visually striking material–Chimera’s damascus lid is a swirled blend of carbon fiber and brass. The CNC process creates beautiful variations in pattern and striations. Every set has its own unique fingerprint with a brilliant shine that, as it catches the light, reveals a luster as the fibers reflect in a quality known as 'chatoyance.' For the shell, billet CNC PVD magnesium was carefully selected for its many properties: ultra-lightweight, superior sonic transmission compatibility with Chimera's bone conduction driver, and premium feel and durability. Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), a final plating, is far more durable than anodizing or paint.
Chimera's machined brass nozzle blends wonderfully with its other external elements, with a subtle gold color and brushed texture finish. It is highly durable and resilient for frequent ear tip changes without worry. It also features a new brass wire mesh nozzle screen. Additional support and build quality are provided by two custom-designed brass fasteners that further reinforce Chimera’s impeccable build.
FAQs
What cable does the Chimera ship with?
The Campfire Audio Chimera IEMs come with the ALO Audio Valence-6, a six-conductor cable with four high-purity copper conductors plus two 50/50 copper and silver-plated copper conductors. The cable is terminated in black anodized aluminum hardware and sports a balanced 4.4mm termination.
What's the "True-Glass" driver?
The True-Glass Driver is Campfire Audio's new 10mm dynamic driver from Glass Acoustic Innovations, a company notable for using a glass dome diaphragm rather than the more common polymer or beryllium-coated designs.
