The Blue Dragon Premium Cable Is the best choice for your HiFiMan planar magnetic headphones if you are not looking to change the coloration but just looking for added detail and resolution. With the addition of Premium connectors and the best solder available from Mundorf, Moon Audio's goal is to pull out as many percentage points of sonic improvements as possible. In Hi-Fi Audio, materials matter and everything you put in the signal path can make a difference. Reducing the transfer resistance of the solder joint, as crazy as this sounds, is one of the many ways we have seen to improve the signal path. Look at the solder as a pothole on the street you travel daily. Electrical signals look at impurities as potholes obstructing a clear path. A fresh layer of asphalt can improve your travels. High-quality solder and better base and plating materials used on our premium connectors act similarly, providing the best possible deliverance of the audio signal.

Quality You Can Trust
Most stock headphone cables are made of poor, ultra-thin conductors that work as a bottleneck for sound. Poor geometries, no shielding, rubber jackets, and a whole host of other issues in OEM cables can limit the performance of the headphone driver in terms of clarity and definition.
Dragon Cables are handcrafted from quality materials in Moon Audio's headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. All of our cables are created with ultra-pure, single-crystal silver and copper strands and engineered to provide the cleanest, most musical presentation. Our wire is void of impurities and crystalline boundaries, leaving nothing between you and your music.
Blue Dragon Sound Signature
The Blue Dragon is designed to be neutral and natural sounding. It improves dynamics without changing the original flavor of the headphone. Look at it as cleaning your eyeglasses, you want the clearest vision possible. The Blue Dragon does just that; it adds more of what the headphone already has but just makes it better. You get to hear more of the micro-dynamics of the music without tipping the sound signature forward or making it laid back.
The Blue Dragon pairs well with all genres, especially music full of stringed instruments. You get a better sense of reverberation and quicker decay of the notes. the piano note decays are quicker almost as if the keys have just had a tune-up. We love this cable with Folk, Americana, Jazz, and singer song writer. Again there is no right or wrong to which Dragon cabl you choose. It is about what is right or your ears.
Blue Dragon Cable Design
This latest edition of the Blue Dragon Headphone Cable uses 4 x 24 AWG Teflon-insulated stranded conductors using pure single crystallized UP-OCC copper with 7N purity 99.99998%. The Blue Dragon Headphone Cable has been designed to match the Silver Dragon Headphone Cable, but with a high purity copper conductor using the Ohno Continuous Casting Process. Each conductor of the Blue Dragon Headphone Cable is made up of a special varying size stranding geometry. The copper stranding is mixed with Kevlar stranding to reinforce the conductor. This makes it stronger overall and less prone to failure due to the harsh constant flexing a headphone cable receives. The conductors are then surrounded by cotton and then a layer of Teflon tape.
What is UP-OCC?
UP-OCC stands for Ultra-Pure Ohno Continuous Casting (OCC). This is not a material, but a way of extruding silver and copper to prevent any impurities and fractures in the crystalline structure of the wire. The wire is drawn very slowly to cast as an almost perfect single crystal small-diameter conductor. The resulting purity and the size of the cast wire make a tremendous difference and there is less damage to the near-perfect cast state. We find this UP-OCC process produces a very clean and close to neutral sound in our copper-based and silver-based cables.

Although the Hi Fi Man Edition XS headphones have garnered many favourable reviews in standard form with the accompanying stock cable, the Blue Dragon Premium Cable produced improvements that only be described as transformative. That is to say, there are very significant improvements in sound staging, detail retrieval, timbral accuracy, frequency response, musicality, neutrality/ naturalness, noise level and grain reduction. In terms of value, those improvements more than justify the additional cost of the aftermarket cable. In hi fi it is rare to find such a perfect match between a hi fi transducer and a cable but this is one of those rare occurrences. Although this is beginning to sound like an advertising pitch, I have formed my opinion after hundreds of hours of listening and I do believe that the Blue Dragon Premium Cable in combination with the Hi Fi Man XS is a very cost competitive method of acquiring a truly high end audio experience.

Once we got the right connectors, everything fit and sounded beautifully. The manufacturer of the connectors needs to put a little more into QC.This cable is so much better than the stock cable. Instruments now occupy their own space in the sound stage rather than being a jumbled mish mash.
