The Blue Dragon Coax Digital Cable is back :)
Moon Audio has been very busy working on filling out all of our product lines with a complete series of the most common cables needed to connect all the components in your hi-fi audio system. The Blue Dragon Coax Digital Cable is a neutral, natural-sounding cable with great dynamics and detail. The cable utilizes the same special UP-OCC design as the rest of the Blue Dragon line. The 75-ohm impedance of a coaxial cable is crucial for efficient signal transmission, especially in applications like digital audio transfer from a digital source to a digital-to-analog converter. Where low signal loss and distortion are essential. It ensures the impedance of the cable matches the impedance of the source (CD player, for example) and load (DAC), minimizing signal reflections and maximizing signal transfer.
Quality You Can Trust
Most stock cables are made of poor, ultra-thin conductors with poor geometries, rubber jackets, and other issues that can limit the performance of your equipment.
Dragon Cables are handcrafted from quality materials in Moon Audio's headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. All of our cables are created with ultra pure, single-crystal silver and copper strands and engineered to provide the cleanest, most musical presentation. Our wire is void of impurities and crystalline boundaries, leaving nothing between you and your music.
Blue Dragon Sound Signature
The Blue Dragon is designed to be neutral and natural sounding. It improves dynamics without changing the original flavor of the headphone. Look at it as cleaning your eyeglasses, you want the clearest vision possible. The Blue Dragon does just that; it adds more of what the headphone already has but just makes it better. You get to hear more of the micro-dynamics of the music without tipping the sound signature forward or making it laid back.
The Blue Dragon pairs well with all genres, especially music full of stringed instruments. You get a better sense of reverberation and quicker decay of the notes. the piano note decays are quicker almost as if the keys have just had a tune-up. We love this cable with Folk, Americana, Jazz, and singer song writer. Again there is no right or wrong to which Dragon cabl you choose. It is about what is right or your ears.
Blue Dragon Cable Design
The Blue Dragon Coax Digital Cable utilizes a 22 AWG UP-OCC stranded center conductor. A PE conductor case is used to protect the conductor's geometry, and the PE insulation is then encased in PEF cable insulation material, which refers to foamed polyethylene. PEF has a very low dielectric constant and can improve data transmission. The double layer shield, which is a combination of an Aluminum-Mylar foil followed by the grounded Braided OFC copper, is perfectly distanced from the center conductor to help maintain the 75-ohm impedance. The cross-sectional geometry of the cable and the materials used in its fabrication are what determine 75-ohm vs 50-ohm impedance, for example.
What the Blue Dragon and all Moon Audio SPDIF Coax Digital Cables Offer:
Impedance Matching
Impedance is the opposition to the flow of alternating current, and it's measured in ohms. In coaxial cables, the impedance is determined by the cable's geometry (diameter of the inner conductor, thickness of the insulation, etc.) and the materials used.
Signal Reflection
When the impedance of a cable and the connected equipment don't match, signal reflections can occur, similar to a wave hitting a barrier and bouncing back. These reflections can lead to signal distortion, ghosting, or even signal failure.
Power Transfer
For maximum power transfer, the impedance of the source, cable, and load should be matched. A 75-ohm cable is designed to efficiently transmit signals with minimal loss and reflection, especially when connected to equipment with a 75-ohm impedance.
Applications
75-ohm coaxial cables are widely used in digital audio & video applications because they provide a stable and reliable way to transmit signals over longer distances without significant loss. Examples: Music Server, CD Player, or DSP to a DAC.
What is UP-OCC?
UP-OCC stands for Ultra-Pure Ohno Continuous Casting (OCC). This is not a material, but a way of extruding silver and copper to prevent any impurities and fractures in the crystalline structure of the wire. The wire is drawn very slowly to cast as an almost perfect single-crystal crystal small-diameter conductor. The resulting purity and the size of the cast wire make a tremendous difference and there is less damage to the near-perfect cast state. We find this UP-OCC process produces a very clean and close to neutral sound in our copper-based and silver-based cables.
