Meet the Dan Clark Audio AEON CORE, Dan Clark's closed-back planar magnetic headphone and direct successor to the beloved AEON 2. The Dan Clark AEON CORE is everything you love about Dan Clark Audio, taken further with a richer sound, stunning new look, and comfort you'll forget you're wearing.
The AEON CORE introduces an all-new driver engineered for maximum efficiency and low distortion, built to work effortlessly with lower-power sources–including dongles, with no need for a hefty headphone amplifier stack. With just 17 ohms impedance and approximately 97 dB/mW sensitivity, it's one of the easiest headphones in the DCA lineup to drive.
It's also the first Dan Clark Audio headphone tuned to a revised Harman over-ear target curve (Harman Curve), developed through original research with Dr. Sean Olive–the scientist behind Harman's most influential curve. Using an original pair of Welty Ears (the same fixture Harman used to develop the curve), Dan Clark precisely mapped the measurements and voiced the AEON CORE for a high-frequency response free of peaks and dips, with a clean, glare-free upper midrange. That careful voicing process is what sets the AEON CORE apart from earlier AEON models.
The result is Dan Clark Audio's signature sound quality: natural, balanced, and lifelike. Vocals sound emotive and true-to-life, bass response is articulate and punchy, and imaging is precise enough to place instruments with real dimensionality. Despite being closed-back, the AEON CORE feels remarkably open–a hallmark DCA has mastered across their lineup.
Dragon Cable Recommendation
Looking to maintain a neutral, clean reproduction? Pair your AEON CORE Headphones with our Blue Dragon Premium Headphone Cable. If you prefer a warmer, more dynamic sound, the Bronze Dragon Premium Headphone Cable is the perfect match. Built to your specifications, handcrafted in our Cary, NC Headquarters, our Dragon Audio Cables provide the cleanest, most musical presentation, leaving nothing between you and your music.
Emotion-Led Experience
There's a moment every listener chases: you put on a pair of headphones, and everything clicks. The soundstage opens up, the details emerge with clarity, and you stop hearing your music and start living inside it. The AEON CORE is built for that moment.
Already a Dan Clark Audio fan? The AEON CORE's signature sound will feel instantly familiar. New to the brand? This is the perfect place to land your feet. The AEON CORE is balanced without feeling boring, never too sharp on top or too flat in the lows. Detail-oriented listeners will love the intricate layering, and those who prefer getting lost in a track will bask in the seductive, faithful midrange.
How does it compare to the STEALTH?
The AEON CORE shares a strikingly similar tuning curve to Dan Clark's flagship STEALTH Headphones, delivering you a taste of that signature sound at a fraction of the cost. The STEALTH still holds the edge in detail and vividness, but the AEON CORE proves you don't need flagship pricing to get flagship-inspired sound.
Looking for something in between? The NOIRE X offers another take on Dan Clark's closed-back sound, while the AEON 2 Noire remains a favorite from the previous generation. For an open-back alternative in the family, the EXPANSE is worth exploring too.
A Bold New Look, A Familiar Comfort
The AEON CORE pairs an aluminum-and-wood aesthetic with dark and light gray accents for a timeless look. It features a titanium headband with a self-adjusting suspension strap borrowed from the Dan Clark Audio E3 Headphones. Dan Clark ditched the traditional folding design of past AEON models for a sturdier build with self-adjusting comfort. Generously padded AEON earpads round out the ergonomic experience.
The result is a level of comfort that makes you forget you're wearing them. A pair of headphones that fit perfectly the moment you put them on, with no fatigue even after hours of listening. The included DUMMER cable comes with your choice of termination, if you’re looking to upgrade further, the VIVO cable is also available in multiple lengths and terminations through Dan Clark.
A Note on Burn-In
Like most Dan Clark Audio headphones, AEON CORE benefits from a burn-in period — give it some time before making final judgments on the sound.
Since 2017, the AEON series has anchored Dan Clark Audio's lineup with exceptional, affordable planar magnetic performance. AEON CORE carries that mission forward — delivering reference-grade sound under $1,000.
FAQs
Where are Dan Clark Headphones Made?
Dan Clark Audio Headphones are designed, built, and tested in San Diego, California. Every model is engineered and assembled in the U.S., with the company operating out of its San Diego headquarters.
Why No AMTS?
Unlike some Dan Clark Audio Headphones, the AEON CORE doesn't feature AMTS technology, and that's by design. AMTS is one of Dan Clark's more expensive technologies to produce, and including it would have pushed the AEON CORE past the sub-$1,000 price point. Instead, Dan Clark deployed a combination of diffusion and absorption technologies that smooth the high-frequency response to comparable levels without the added cost.
What cable termination options are available?
The included DUMMER Cable can be configured with a 4-pin XLR connector, or a single-ended 1/4"–3.5mm or 4.4mm termination–choose whichever fits your setup at checkout.
