64 Audio's Key Proprietary Technologies
Designed and built by 64 Audio, the U18s leverages several of the company's proprietary technologies, including their tia (Tubeless In-Ear Audio) system, Apex (Air Pressure Exchange) system, and LID (Linear Impedance Design) circuit.
Tia–Tubeless In-Ear Audio
Tubeless In-Ear Audio (tia) reduces unwanted resonance and distortion for a transparent, lifelike sound signature. The Tia system is comprised of three elements: open-balanced armature tia drivers, the tia single-bore design, and tia acoustic chambers. The U18s features two major elements of the tia system: the tia driver and the tia single-bore design.
The tia driver is positioned at the mouth of the sound bore, allowing it to radiate directly into the ear canal. This open architecture allows the sound from all drivers to mix more naturally before reaching the ear, creating a more extended and natural high-frequency response. The Tia system is regarded for its ability to produce a more open, natural, and detailed sound compared to traditional tubed IEMs.
Apex–Air Pressure Exchange
Apex is 64 Audio's patented vent system that releases air pressure in a sealed ear canal, all while retaining standard IEM levels of isolation. This not only provides relief during long listening sessions, but also delivers a more realistic soundstage. Apex comes in three module variations for the U18s: mX, m15, and m20.
LID–Linear Impedance Design
LID is a patented circuit that corrects the non-linear electrical resistance of the multiple driver-sets compromising the U18s. Varying source amplifier output impedance in devices like smartphones, body packs, DAC/amps, and DAPs typically results in varying frequency response across them, depending on the increase in resistance. Restoring proper interaction with the source and preserving the desired sound signature enables a consistent, reliable sound.
To round out the U18s' impressive set of technologies is the electrical low-pass filter, a crossover circuit that replaces traditional acoustic dampers, which can introduce unwanted distortion through vibration and air turbulence. Rather than using acoustic dampers to filter unwanted frequencies after the driver produces them, the electrical low-pass filter lowers distortion by eliminating unwanted frequencies before they reach the driver.
