The TS-1 is Matrix Audio's all-in-one solution for the modern audiophile–a streamer, DAC, and headphone amp built into a single, refined unit. Designed around the idea that simplicity and audiophile-grade performance are not a compromise, the TS-1 connects to your headphones or active speakers straight out of the box, giving you a complete hi-fi system without the cable clutter, component matching, or setup headaches that come with serious audio. Whether you're streaming from TIDAL in the living room or critically listening through high-impedance headphones, the TS-1 is engineered to meet you there.
Under the hood, the TS-1 draws on the proven engineering platform of the Matrix Audio M Series and builds upward from it with a fully balanced dual-DAC architecture, discrete headphone amplification, dual femtosecond clock precision, and a layered PCB design. Navigate your library, inputs, and settings directly from the integrated touchscreen on the front pane. Pair it with the MA Player hi-fi streaming OS and your preferred streaming services, and everything from local NAS libraries for a seamless listening experience. The Matrix Audio TS-1 is a device you set up once, then forget about–except when you're listening.
An Audio Hub for Every Source
As a multifaceted component, the TS-1 is built to serve every need in your audio system. Five inputs–optical, coaxial, USB digital audio, HDMI ARC, and analog RCA input–cover virtually every scenario from desktop listening to living room TV systems, turntables, CD transports, and more. High-standard XLR and RCA outputs with selectable output voltage make pairing active monitors straightforward, while the TS-1's preamplifier functionality lets it take full control of your system's volume and source switching. A dedicated subwoofer output on the TS-1 handles frequencies below 150Hz with synchronized volume control alongside the main line output makes it easy to add a subwoofer and build a 2.1 system without additional hardware.
Switch between them effortlessly with the included IR remote control or the MA Remote App, available on supported iOS and Android devices. One device, every source, no compromises on convenience.
Your Music, Your Way
Whether you prefer streaming the latest albums or diving into your beloved digital music library, the TS-1 has you covered. The TS-1 integrates natively with your favorite hi-fi streaming services: TIDAL, Qobuz, HIGHRESAUDIO, and internet radio, all available in one place. Take it a step further with Roon Ready support, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Audirvana, QPlay, and UPnP/DLNA.
Mount a NAS drive, connect cloud storage, rip CDs via USB CD drive directly to the internal storage, or install an NVMe SSD in the dedicated NVMe SSD slot on the bottom of the unit for expanded local capacity. An independently powered, ultra-low noise LDO supply for the SSD keeps the operating environment quieter than a standard PC. The TS-1 can also function as a NAS itself, making your library accessible to other devices on your network via SMB. The TS-1 is designed to deliver high-resolution music from virtually any service or protocol without friction.
A DAC Built to the Balanced Standard
Featuring a fully balanced design from digital audio input to analog output, each channel runs its own AK4493EQ chip with dual DAC units in parallel. Independent ultra-low-noise power supplies for each chip ensure that dynamic range and channel separation reach their full potential–richer detail, cleaning layering, more music. The result is a wide, enveloping soundstage that places instruments and vocals with precision, letting you hear exactly where everything sits in a recording.
Headphone Amplification, Refined
The TS-1's fully balanced, high-bias headphone amplifier drives a variety of high-end headphones with an output impedance of just 1 ohm. A 4.4mm balanced output and a 6.35mm unbalanced output are both on board, covering the full range of modern headphone connections. Two output voltage settings handle everything from sensitive in-ear monitors to demanding full-sized headphones. The amplifier has been tuned specifically for modern high-resolution headphones, extending the highs while subtly taming listening fatigue for sessions that last as long as you want them to.
Precision Clocking
Two femtosecond-grade, ultra-low phase noise clocks, one dedicated to 44.1kHz and its multiples, one to 48kHz, each powered by independent low-noise linear regulators. Intelligent switching between them is handled automatically, providing a rock-solid timing foundation for low-jitter audio output.
Connectivity and Power
With Wi-Fi 6 wireless and Gigabit Ethernet, there's flexibility in where you place the TS-1 in your system. A dedicated USB DAC input accepts an external linear power supply for those who want to extract the last measure of performance. When connected, the system automatically prioritizes it over the internal AC supply. Onboard power filtering and multiple low-noise LDOs ensure clean, stable power to every circuit regardless.
FAQs
Do I need a separate amplifier to use the TS-1 with my speakers?
No. The TS-1 is designed to work directly with active speakers via its XLR or RCA analog outputs. It's not intended to drive passive speakers, which would still require a separate power amplifier.
What streaming services and protocols does the TS-1 support?
The TS-1 integrates natively with TIDAL, Qobuz, HIGHRESAUDIO, and internet radio like Radio Paradise, Tuner, and FM Radio. For protocol support, it covers Roon Ready, Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, UPnP/DLNA, Audirvana, QPlay, and more.
Can I use the TS-1 as a DAC or input selector for sources I already own, like a turntable or TV?
Yes. The TS-1 includes five physical inputs: optical, coaxial, USB Audio, HDMI ARC, and RCA analog. The HDMI ARC input is particularly useful for integrating a TV, while the RCA analog input accommodates a phono preamp for vinyl setups. You can switch between inputs using the IR remote or the MA Remote App.
