LCD-X brings you two editions: the Creator Package Edition and the Whitebox Edition. The Creator Package Edition includes a 1/4" single-ended LCD braided cable and the newly designed economy travel case. Opening up the Whitebox edition, the box presents a leather-free pair of open-back headphones with a 1/4" single-ended braided copper cable with no travel case. The Audeze LCD-X Reference Level headphones boast a newly developed transducer made from a thinner and lighter material, enhancing overall performance. I have yet to try it balanced but find it both a bit heavy on the head and the presentation.Compared to my Quad ERA-1 there really is no contest. The Quads are faster, lighter, have more air and a better sound stage that the Audece LCD-X.I also own Focal Clear MG and prefer then to the Audece.

I have been involved with high end audio since the 70's (yikes!) but never had much interest in headphone listening. As I have aged my hearing has gone a bit down hill. I decided to try a reasonably priced set of phones to see what all of the excitement was about. I was impressed with the phones I chose and not unhappy with spending close to $500.00 on them. I was really intrigued with the concept of spending thousands of dollars on a set of headphones. After all, the purchase I just made was probably all one could expect. So, when the Audeze LCD-X started getting top notch reviews I decided to see what it was all about. I really was surprised at how much better these are than the phones I bought originally. Very clear with full soundstage and excellent L/R presence. The bass is very good, not boomy or loose. I could go on and on. Suffice it to say, I am more than pleased with these headphones. What I am not pleased about is what I will have to spend if I try to improve upon them.
