Feeling the presence of the artist
Accuracy level
With the 2M Black, you will not only hear the music, but you will sense the presence of the artist in the room while listening to your favorite records.
Shibata diamond
Stylus
The 2M Black is graced with a Shibata diamond that gives it contact with the groove like nothing else. The slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the most high frequency groove information.
For every phase of your musical expedition
Exploring the lineup
The 2M series is built on our philosophy of accuracy in sound. All our experience, know-how, technology, and innovation have gone into making it the series that lets you hear the music the way the artist intended. In every piece of every cartridge, we strive for perfection, and when the technology can’t deliver the quality we want, we invent something that can. To ensure the highest quality in our product, we keep everything close. All our cartridges are designed and crafted right here in Denmark.
The 2M Series is developed in conjunction with the Danish Industrial designer Møller Jensen Design. Inspired by the facets of a diamond, whose contours gracefully trace the grooves on a record’s surface, the 2M’s handsome elegance establishes a great combination of form and functionality.
Split pole pin technology
Features
The 2M Black uses a special engine featuring Ortofon’s very own invention: split pole pins upgraded with a silver-plated copper wire.
Universal fit
The 2M Series is designed for easy cartridge mounting, weight, and size to fit the most common turntables today.
The 2M Series are available in four different product variant configurations: the 2M for most common turntables on the market; the 2M Premounted, for customers who wish direct and easy mounting and replacement on their S-shaped tonearm; the 2M Verso, for bottom mount headshells; and the 2MR, which is designed cartridge housing tailored for turntables and tonearms like Rega, matching their requirement for low-form factor cartridges.
The Audio Beat
“... The 2M line has become a de facto reference for moving-magnet cartridges ... It is due to both the sound quality of the various 2M models as well as the wide price range across the line ... The differences among the four stereo 2M models occur in three primary areas: stylus profile, body material, and engine ...“
-Marc Mickelson
Hi-Fi Choice
“... Everything about the 2M Black is well thought out ...
... The 2M Black sounds excellent across a wide range of program material, with a distinctively ‘clean’ Ortofon sound that has tremendous detail resolving capability ...
... It goes to work on the recorded acoustic, setting it up tidily with lots of atmosphere, stretching right back to the edges of the concert hall ...
... It is very good at expressing the emotion in the lead vocal and capturing the dynamic nuances in the track overall ...“
-Group test
Hi-Fi News Yearbook 2011
“... When set up, the Ortofon 2M Black was immediately engaging, sounding powerful and vivid ...
... it was natural recordings of full orchestra that confirmed that the 2M Black is a stellar moving-magnet cartridge ...
... The 2M Black delivers a holographic imagery worthy of the most sophisticated vinyl replay systems.“
TNT Audio
“… the Ortofon's strengths in detail, imaging, tracking, and neutrality make for a compelling case. If you're looking for a cartridge in this price range, be it MM or MC, it should definitely be on your shortlist.“
