Do I have to buy the full Lina system or can I use the individual components separately?

While the Lina Network DAC, Lina Master Clock, and Lina Headphone Amplifier are designed to be configured and used together as an entire system, you can purchase the units separately. However, the Lina Master Clock works best when paired with other dCS Lina components.

Is the Lina fully system RoonReady?

Yes, the Lina full system is RoonReady, meaning that when connected to the same network as Roon Core, the Lina Network DAC can be fully controlled for streaming.

Is the dCS Lina full system compatible with streaming services like Tidal and Qobuz?

What's the difference between dCS Lina and Dave?

The dCS Lina Network DAC and the Chord Electronics Dave DAC Preamp Amplifier use two different approaches to digital-to-analog conversion. Both components use an FPGA chip as the engine to control the D/A process. Where they differ is the technology. The Lina Network DAC uses dCS' proprietary Ring DAC technology. On the surface, a Ring DAC looks like a Ladder DAC, but a Ladder DAC generates a smaller and smaller energy, while the current sources on the Ring DAC remain of equal value. The FPGA controls how these sources are turned on and off to generate the correct signal at incredibly low distortion values.

The Dave uses an FPGA as well, but instead of large banks of resistor banks, it uses Flip-Flops and Crystal Oscillators. The circuit path is shorter and uses more filters within the algorithms controlled by the FPGA. It's fair to say the Dave uses more software-based control while the Lina uses more hardware-based control for the digital-to-analog conversion. There is no right or wrong to ether approach. Both offer reference signal conversion with different sound signature flavors.
