How well does a 3rd party mic help? Let’s find out.

The Opening Experience

V-Moda did a really impressive job in the packing of their cable. It’s presented in a way that doesn’t overkill one with wording and details but yet still sets itself apart from others. When you open the box you’re greeted with a cable that immediately looks the part of a serious gaming device. Though getting it out of the package could’ve been smoother it still wasn’t a bad experience overall. A respectable handshake indeed.

Construction

Absolutely top notch. It’s something that I’ve grown accustomed to with V-Moda products, but they always seem to put together extremely well built products that I’ve no worries about the longevity of. The BoomPro mic is of no exception to this. The cable itself is encased in a very strong feeling thread fabric that possesses the perfect amount of tautness and flexibility.

About 8 inches from the top you have a small clip on volume and mute toggle switch that, at least for me, couldn’t have been positioned any better. I missed the mute feature for a downside with using my “audiophile” headphones is that they’ve no mute functions. So when I wish to have a conversation or if I’m eating and don’t wish to share, I have to back out of my game, go to the party chat setting, click options and then click mute on myself, then return to the game. Now I simply flip a switch.

Finally there’s the microphone itself. I almost ran into a serious issue when I first got these in to review for only 2 of my headphone (by no means audiophile grade) support the standard 3.5mm jack. But the microphone itself is very flexible and maintains the position it’s placed in. It’s a very appropriate length from the headphone to the face and even the look of it is awesome (I’ve always been partial to the aggressive look).

Effectiveness

Now to arguably the most important part of the V-Moda BoomPro mic and that’s well, the microphone quality. Once I found myself a pair of headphones that was compatible with the 3.5mm jack and was able to experiment I was INSTANTLY greeted with complements and wows. This actually says a lot for I was directly comparing it to my most used headphone, the Bowers & Wilkins P7. That’s the microphone I’ve always used and people primarily hear me from, and they all said I sound so much cleaner and much more focused. The BoomPro mic never once felt in the way nor a hinderance to my gameplay.

When I wasn’t actively using it I could simply move it to the side where it would obediently stay until it was needed again. The cord remained tangle free and rarely ever kinded up on anything, despite its impressive length at around 5’.

Conclusion

I find the V-Moda BoomPro mic to be an incredible product especially for the relatively inexpensive price tag. The performance it provided it immediately noticeable and when I A/B my Destiny friends they get it right virtually every time. So if you’re looking for a great 3rd party mic and you’ve a headphone that supports a standard 3.5mm aux, then I would highly recommend you equip yourself with this and better the communication experience.

Till next time my friends, also make sure to check out my YouTube unboxing and review videos!
