Scott: Great Audio Geek

Describe Your Current Gear

I am not a hi-fi nerd because I have the most expensive nor the most audiofile of equipment, but because I care the most. Sure my stereo is the center of my living room (that’s why they call it living), but I also have separate pairs of speakers from that same stereo in the loft where I do work; oh and another pair for full stereo in the kitchen; and yet another pair of speakers for the rich sound of stereo while in the bathroom (yes, modesty does not hold me back from proclaiming the beauty of stereo while doing one’s duty). My TV (cable) is hooked to this system, as is my Blu-ray, CD player, computer, and DAC. Music is on here every hour I am here, every waking hour, even some when I am not awake. Oh, yeah, I love headphones and have since I was in grade school.

Musical Moment

When I saw it the first time, and every, many times I have seen it since, the “If I Can Dream” finale of what became to be called Elvis’ “Comeback Special” remains a spine-tingling and perfect embodiment of music and power and caring and physicality that cannot be matched.

Favorite Bands

The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and The Monkees. They care, they change, they restore.

Hi-Fi Intro

It was when I figured out how to wire a pair of over the ear hheadphones to a stereo console by using the speaker output and wrapping wire in just the right way to make just the right connection. Stunning!
