Hemp Headphones

The first of its kind, hemp finds a new purpose in The Hemp Headphone. A brilliant, warm, and precise sound rolled into a Limited Edition Grado.

The team at Grado had to draw on inspiration and experience from past Limited Editions, taking what they learned from working with exotic woods like cocobolo to fine tune the drivers to work in tandem with the wood. The highly compressed hemp creates a damping effect between its fibers. This produces a fuller sound, comprised of a noticeable low end and a top end that extends smoothly to its limits.

To be blunt…Into the Unknown

In the never-ending pursuit to experiment with all types of woods and materials, Grado had the opportunity to build with hemp. To everyone’s surprise, it quickly became a favorite around Grado. To be blunt, this is one of the best sounding Limited Editions they've built.

The Sound of Wood: Built from Hemp

The hemp may be doing the heavy lifting, but the hemphone is a joint effort. We’ve built maple into the housing along with the hemp to help balance out the sound and bring out the sonic properties heard in maple. Bringing maple into the mix gave some foresight, but only through trial-and-error could the potential of the hemp be revealed.

Specifically Tuned: Driver Focused

The Grado drivers built into the hemp housings had to be specifically tuned for a new material. Pairing it with maple gave some foresight, but only through trial-and-error could the sound be crafted to bring out the potential of the hemp.

Signature Sound: High Expectations

The last seven decades has given us time to perfect our sound, letting the headphones reveal new notes and details in songs heard hundreds of times. The Hemp Headphone is a slow burn, constantly getting better with every listen. Grado's signature sound is ever-present, working in tandem with the hemp and maple.

With Love: Hand-Built in Brooklyn

Each Hemp Headphone is hand-built by our team in Brooklyn. Fine rolled for every genre of music, hemp and maple work together for the first time to bring a new level of vibrancy to our Limited Editions. Grado started building on a kitchen table in 1953, and every experience since then has led to the creation of The Hemp Headphone.
