Hardwired or Detachable Split Mod for Headphones?
BeyerDynamic T5p Headphones with Detachable Split Mod
This is similar to the Hardwired Split Mod but instead of wiring straight to the driver we install a connection system on each of the headphone cups. This provides the ability to switch out cables and this is what Moon Audio does best as Custom Cables are our middle name. :)
Let's say you want a 5ft Moon Audio Silver Dragon for portable use and a 20ft Black Dragon headphone cable for home use. Now you can easily swap out cables for each application of your headphones. Not all headphones can have this Installation type as it depends on the ergonomics of the ear cup and whether we can install a connection system.
On some headphones you might also see a Detachable Single Entry as an installation type. Some headphones like the AKG K702 have a connection system for the stock cable. In this scenario, the upgrade headphone cable you pick will use the same existing stock connection. However, this connection type, while cheaper, is not the best sounding. Hardwiring is the best sonic choice, followed by the detachable split mod.
You will also notice on some headphones there is not an Installation Type option. This is because the stock headphones already offer a Split Detachable connection option. For example, the Sennheiser HD800 and the Audeze LCD-2 headphones already offer a Split Detachable connection option. All you need to do here is to choose the upgrade cable and you can install the cable once you receive your order from Moon Audio. These are user-replaceable cables and no special modification is necessary.
