Chord Hugo 2 and 2GO Streamer

New Features Bring the Hugo 2 DAC Into the World of Wireless

Last month Chord Electronics announced two new products, the 2GO and the 2YU. The 2GO is currently available for order HERE.

The Chord 2GO adds IOs and ergonomic expansion to the Hugo 2, so if you already have one, it should be a no-brainer that the 2GO would compliment your system nicely. The Chord 2YU on the other hand offers four digital outputs so it can be connected to any DAC or any other device with a digital input, and it can be connected to Chord's own Hugo M Scaler / Hugo TT2 to create a state-of-the-art streaming system. In order for the 2YU to be used with other DACs it must be in combination with the 2GO. The 2GO provides the network or Bluetooth connection (the 2YU cannot be used without the 2GO).

But there’s a lot more to these little devices. Let’s get into some more specifics...

Adding the 2GO to the Hugo 2

With the arrival of the Chord 2GO you can now turn your Chord Hugo 2 into a high-performance streamer and server via wi-fi or ethernet-enabled device. The 2GO is similar to what the Chord Poly is for the Chord Mojo, but supercharged.

In addition to its wireless music streaming abilities, the 2GO offers wi-fi and Bluetooth WLAN as well as wired LAN for a much more stable connection. Let’s face it, no wireless connection is flawless and can have blips and dropouts. We always recommend a wired connection if at all possible. With up to 4TB of SD card music storage (x2 microSD card slots, supporting up to 2TB card capacities), 2GO also functions as a high-capacity digital music server using MPD. The Chord Poly only has 1 microSD card slot, so this is a nice upgrade. When powered from its battery alone, the Hugo/2GO delivers the ultimate in purist audio.

The 2GO is controlled by the same Go Figure App used to control the Poly. 2GO contains highly advanced, miniaturized electronic engineering and is the most technically and sonically advanced compact music stream available today. 2GO combines wireless convenience (2.4GHz Wi-Fi and A2DP Bluetooth) and plug-and-play operation with the stability and performance of wired (gigabit) ethernet connectivity. There has been an important update to the configuration app, Gofigure, and all 2GO users will need a fresh install to control their device/s. Poly users are also advised to undertake a fresh install, to exploit the full potential of the updated app. Please delete the old GoFigure app and reinstall. The App will not auto update.

2GO also benefits from comprehensive audio interfacing and offers Tidal, Qobuz, and internet radio playback with Spotify and other services. Earmarked for the future, 2GO is also Roon ready, offers gapless audio and DoP/Bit Perfect support, as well as being fully DLNA-compliant (server/renderer) and AirPlay-ready.

Charging the 2GO

When charging either the Poly while connected to the Mojo, or the 2GO when connected to the Hugo 2, the DACs will charge first followed by the wi-fi streaming devices. It is paramount that a 2Amp charger is utilized like the stock Hugo 2 charger or the Tronsmart charger here:

NOTE: Charging each device separately will greatly decrease charge time if you own two chargers.

Adding the 2YU to the Hugo 2

The Chord 2YU is not connected to the Hugo 2 in the same way the 2GO is. It is a digital interface that connects to the Chord 2GO effectively turning the 2GO-2YU into a full-fledged standalone music streamer / server. It is only a direct interface for the 2GO. The digital outputs can be used in combination with other Chord and Non-Chord DACs to provide a WLAN or LAN connections.

The Chord 2YU offers four digital outputs so it can be connected to the Chord's own Hugo M Scaler / Hugo TT2 to create a state-of-the-art streaming system. We would recommend the Black Dragon Mini Coax Digital Cable 75ohm to connect the 2GO-2YU together with the Hugo 2. Why add it? As it provides a way to connect the 2GO-2YU to multiple DACs in a 2 channel setup. For example, you can use the Hugo 2 as your primary headphone amplifier and send another digital output to your 2 channel or Home Theater system.

GoFigure App Update

Chord released the latest updated version of their companion app, GoFigure, so include several critical updates to accompany the release of the 2GO. These improvements include better music streaming, performance and playback for both Mojo/Poly and Hugo/2Go pairings. The latest update can be downloaded for iOS and Android in their respective app stores.

4/7/20 - The latest version, Android 1.2.81 and iOS 2.04, benefits from an updated user interface for greater ease of use, an easy-to-access music tab to navigate to the quick play radio/SD card playlist playback, plus greatly improved device discovery on Bluetooth. In addition, Android users can benefit from Wi-Fi configuration, a feature which will follow later on iOS.

F.A.Q.

What equipment is the 2GO compatible with?

The Chord 2GO is designed to work with the Hugo 2 DAC to create a high-fidelity music streaming device. It is also compatible with the 2YU to provide a digital output media bridge solution for adding a Roon EndPoint to any DAC.

How does the 2Go work with the Hugo 2?

The 2GO connects to the Hugo 2 DAC to enable the device to stream music wirelessly from your source to your connected headphones. The 2Go is form-factored to fit flush with your Hugo 2 DAC and connects securely to the device.

Like the Hugo, the 2GO is battery powered and is controlled wireless via Chord’s Go Figure App.

Who is the 2GO for?

The Chord 2GO is great for those looking for portable high-fidelity solutions. If you’re on the road or even wanting to use your Hugo 2 in a grab-and-go environment, then the 2GO will allow the user to connect to their music library wherever they are.

What if I already have a Poly/Mojo?

The Chord 2GO and Hugo 2 pairing are for audiophiles who want more meat, body and depth to their music. Of course, the Mojo and Poly are smaller, but they can’t compete with the powerhouse and definition that the Hugo 2 and 2GO can provide.

Should I get the 2GO or the 2YU?

It depends on what you want to do. Both are streamers, but the 2GO is specifically designed to pair with the Hugo 2 DAC for streaming music solutions to your headphones. The 2YU on the other hand is designed to pair with the 2GO, effectively creating a standalone streamer, and utilizing the digital outs of the 2YU to your output. Note that the 2YU cannot be connected directly to the Hugo 2.

What are the benefits of using the 2GO?

The Chord 2GO is designed to transform one of the best DACs on the market, the Chord Hugo 2, into a fully portable music streaming setup. The Hugo 2 + 2GO pairing is going to deliver much more performance and fidelity than Chord’s previous portable pairing, the Chord Mojo + Poly.
