Black Dragon Premium Cable for Audeze Headphones V2
Premium Custom Headphone Cable for all Audeze Headphones: LCD-XC, LCD-X, LCD-2 and LCD-3.
Drew recommends the Black Dragon V2 Premium as his Top Choice for the LCD-XC, LCD-X or the Beyerdynamic T1 with the detachable connector mod.
The Black Dragon V2 Premium smooths out the high energy top end while tightening up and controlling the bottom end or bass and also makes the mid-range more musical. The LCD-X and LCD-XC have more top end energy than the LCD-2 and LCD-3. For the Audeze LCD-2 and LCD-3 headphones, Drew recommends the Silver Dragon V3 Premium Headphone cable for Audeze.
The difference between the Standard Black Dragon and the Premium Black Dragon are the connectors used on each end and a harder to work with higher silver yield solder. The wire is identical. When you are trying to squeeze out every last percentage point of performance, the Premium version makes sense. The Furutech Top Line connectors are quite simply the best made. And every point of signal saturation will make a difference. Is there a night and day difference between the sound quality of the standard and premium? No. Is the Premium the best of the best? Yes. These cables are meant for the cream of the crop headphones where every little thing makes a difference in terms of bring you closer to audio nirvana.
The Black Dragon V2 headphone cable is the original black dragon headphone cable. It uses 4 x 21.5AWG Teflon insulated stranded conductors using pure single crystallized UP-OCC pure copper with 7N purity 99.99998%. It is a wonderful match for the Grado, AKG, Sennheiser and many other high end headphones.
Each conductor is made up of a special varying size stranding geometry. The copper stranding is mixed with Kevlar stranding to reinforce the conductor. Making it stronger overall and less prone to failure due to the harsh constant flexing a headphone cable receives. The conductors are then surrounded by cotton and then a layer of Teflon tape. The new version is also shielded and placed in a polyethylene jacket for further protection.
For the Black Dragon V2 Premium version, we are using the Furutech FT-610 connector. Furutech’s beautifully finished, beautiful sounding FT-610 connectors are the result of meticulous engineering and careful audition of various suitable materials. The FT-610 features an α (Alpha) phosphor bronze conductor and Nylon+Fiberglass 15% insulation for minimal impedance and a nonmagnetic stainless and carbon fiber finished main body and nonmagnetic stainless end ring for superior damping. The Pins are Nonmagnetic Rhodium-plated α (Alpha) Phosphor bronze conductors.
The wire is soldered to the connector with high quality silver solder. The default 1/4" Plug is the new Furutech CF-763. Furutech’s beautifully finished, beautiful sounding CF-763 connectors are the result of meticulous engineering and careful audition of various suitable materials. The CF-763 features an Nonmagnetic Rhodium-plated α (Alpha) phosphor bronze conductor and Fluoropolymer insulation for minimal impedance and a nonmagnetic stainless and carbon fiber finished housing for superior damping.
For XLR connections there are 2 choices. The FP-601M（R) XLR which uses a Beryllium copper and phosphor bronze α (Alpha) Conductor: the body is a Copper alloy with PVDF Fluoropolymer insulation. The second choice is the top of the line CF-601M（R）XLR which utilizes an α (Alpha) Beryllium copper and phosphor bronze Rhodium-plated Conductor with Carbon fiber and nonmagnetic stainless steel housing. The Body is PVDF Fluoropolymer insulation with a Specially designed cable strain relief.
The cable is extremely smooth sounding with great low end and wonderful voicing. If you listen to any type of music then this is the cable will suit your needs. It is a little more rounded than the Blue Dragon with fuller sound and more bottom end weight.

Recently I have been mixing a lot with my Audeze MX-4s with the Black Dragon cable. Yesterday in the studio I thought I would put the stock cable back on to try it. It is light and shorter and I wondered if it would be more convenient.
The difference in your black dragon was astonishing, and I was surprised and delighted. I felt so much closer to the music when I used the black dragon compared to the stock cable (Beautiful female vocal and electric guitar in this instance) listening with the Black Dragon. Much the kind of positive experience I had recently swapping out some older Lynx Converters for the wonderful BURLs. I kinda bought the Black Dragon on trust and on a vibe culled from the Internet, and now I won’t be mixing without it
So, thank you and congratulations on a great product
Black dragon + lcdx + mojo = endgame.
Veil lifted on the high frequencies, the darkness that Audeze headphones can have is gone. More coherent and engaging sound.
Makes the LCD-X thoroughly enjoyable, thoughts of having to upgrade to something else have vanished. And lastly, cables very well made, obviously crafted with lots of care, feels like will last long, long time.
After a search on the internet, I got to Moon Audio and decided very soon to add a top end matching cable as recommended, i.e. the Black Dragon V2. This decision makes me enjoy my new can even much more.
Thank you Drew!
I also want to express my thanks to the very good service from Moon Audio with a very fast delivery from the U.S. to Belgium.
I mostly listen to classical music and the problem now is I have to listen to my extensive collection of CDs all over again...-)
Using this combination I have never heard a smoother or more completely artifact-free upper midrange and lower treble. To my absolute pleasure, there is ZERO sibilance, peakiness or harshness. Upper mids and lower trebles are buttery smooth (just like a Koetsu cartridge!), but with absolutely NO loss of information and detail. This makes not only for a completely irritation-free and pleasurable extended listening experience; it puts this combination up with any number of top-level audiophile speaker systems costing tens of thousands of dollars more.
Can't argue with that really. Thanks, Drew for this fantastic upgrade!
Amazingly I had to keep switching between cables to make sure I was hearing the difference correctly as the Black Dragon apparently is such an incredible match to the LCD-X that almost every level was affected in a positive way...better imaging, placement and much better extension which gave voices and instruments a 3 dimensional rendering not heard with the Silver Dragon.
I would not have believed it if I hadn't heard it over and over. The Black Dragon is the HP cord for the LCD-X. Take Drew's word on this and you'll be very happy you did. The Premium Black Dragon and the LCD-X have some alchemy going on and it draws you into the music in a very absorbing way. 5 Stars.
Why? Its a $400 headphone cable on a pair of $1700 headphones so who would ever have thought it could make any difference other than to make me feel better that I'm not settling for the stock cable?
There might be a scientific or logical explanation that a headphone cable can make a subtle change in the sound of the headphones, but I cant think of any explanation that makes sense for this. The improvement the Black Dragon makes on the LCD-XC is dramatic out of the box even before one minute of burn in.
I know the subject of cable swapping is controversial for audiophiles & people can debate it and study it all they want, but they cant argue with their ears! Even if you think I'm crazy, if you own the Audeze LCD-XC, the more than reasonable price of the Black Dragon gives you nothing to lose and a lot to gain by trying it.
