A great enhancement to the already awesome AK380 Digital Music Player
I've been using the AK Recorder for a few weeks now, combined with my AK380. It is a well thought out product. It is very easy to use and to create first class recordings, especially when set to record in DSD. The record levels couldnt be easier to set using the on screen slide adjustments. The tracks can be split while you're recording or alternatively you can use the auto split function if recording an LP or SACD. It took me a while to find a suitable desktop application for further editing. There doesn't seem to be much DSD file editing support, unlike WAV files which have tons of applications you can use to edit them. I came across the free Tascam Hi-Res Editor which does basic track editing and allows you to save the DSD files in DSF format (which allows for enhanced file info and album art which the default DFF files don't support). Google "dff vs dsf". I was previously using a Sony PCM-D1 to record at 96 khz / 24 bit (a fine product in itself) to make hi res recordings. The AK Recorder in DSD mode blows the Sony out of the water. The recordings are far superior in every way. This is a massive improvement for a portable device. It can easily hold its own against desktop recorders. Get yourself an external power supply as the DSD recordings process can use the batteries up reasonably quickly, giving you about 4 hours of recording time. The unit runs quite hot while recording as a result of all the processing going on I imagine, nothing to be concerned about.
