The High Resolution Technologies HeadStreamer incorporates a digitally-controlled, fully analog built-in attenuator that is controlled by the computer's overall (digital) volume control.
It is optimized for maximum output with (most portable modern) headphones that have an impedance of about 100 ohms or less, but it will happily play with higher-impedance phones such as Sennheiser 580 or 600, though with a bit less output.
This is a great solution for those wanting a small, super-clean dedicated headphone amp for use on computer desk systems, or to take with you for use with a laptop or net-book computer when traveling.

Massages and shapes the digital files on your computer to a slightly forward but a somewhat wide, moderately deep, smooth low mids, slightly crispy highs. Very dependent on headphones or speakers. Music is punchy and not rolled off at either extreme with a tightness in the higher frequencies that makes metal sizzle into the stratosphere maybe replacing my loss of sensitivity over time. Bigger improvement with better output equipment, but less with econo equipment. One of those things that when you increase "volume" you get more details not "loudness." The lowest priced async dac, but the biggest sound for that price for sure. And hell ya, made in the USA. (nothing is) (Posted on 3/15/12)Quality Price Value
