Introducing DEQX Calibrated™...
DEQX’s reference quality HDP3 preamp processor is aimed at the audiophile and professional seeking the ultimate DEQX implementation. Based on the same ground breaking features provided by the acclaimed PDC2.6P Preamp/Processor, the HDP-3 provides further analogue transparency in a new larger chassis with analogue power supplies and further enhanced analogue electronics.
The HDP-3 is a stereo digital processor offering DEQX’s patented speaker and room correction technology. When connected to a PC running DEQX’s software, the HDP-3 allows you to measure and correct your main speakers and subwoofers using its largely automated wizard-driven measurement, analysis, and correction software.
Our loudspeakers introduce between ten to one hundred times more distortion, as well as errors in the form of inaccurate frequency-response and incoherent timing, than the signal that drives them. Unlike DSP room correction systems, whose measurements must contain room acoustic effects, the HDP-3 first measures and corrects a speaker’s native (anechoic) behavior so that frequency related phase (group-delay) errors and frequency-response errors can be corrected in detail before measuring and correcting room acoustics.
The HDP-3 can be used for correcting passive speakers and optionally integrating one or two subwoofers, followed by room correction. If used to provide DEQX-HD™ active implementation, where each driver type has its own amplifier, the HDP3 corrects each driver individually. The HDP’s six outputs providing up to 3-way active crossovers. Configurations supported are; passive speakers plus the option of one or two subwoofers, 2-way active speakers plus optional subwoofers, and 3-way active speakers.
Stereo digital and analogue Inputs include: SPDIF (RCA), AES/EBU (XLR), unbalanced analog (RCA), balanced analogue (XLR). Standard outputs are analogue unbalanced (RCA). Optional outputs include balanced analogue (6 x XLR) OR Digital outputs (3 x XLR, 3 x RCA). Multiple HDP-3 units can connected together for multi-channel surround configurations such as 4.2 and 5.1 to 7.7 configurations. For Home Theatre use, it is possible use only one HDP3 to correct front Left and Right plus subwoofers only, where most soundtrack music is provided. The HDP3 can automatically select its digital input when it senses a stereo PCM output from a stereo CD or DVD player (up to 24-bit 96kHz), defaulting to its analogue input for front left/right film soundtrack playback.
The Preamp features of the HDP-3 include six digitally controlled analogue volume controls that allow the DACs to operate at their maximum resolution at low listening levels. The remote control provides volume control, input selection, four different speaker and room correction profile selections, and Lo, Mid, Hi, tone controls where the mid control provides a fully parametric EQ band. 100 tone control settings can be saved and recalled from the remote control.
The industry leading SHARC 32-bit floating point DSPs from Analogue devices combined with DEQX’s software contribute less than 0.0001% distortion and noise. The HDP-3 contains improved power supplies and analogue electronics to preserve the system’s digital processing transparency to audiophile requirements.
If you are not utilizing the services of a DEQX installer and intend to measure and correc your speakers and room yourself you will need either the Standard Calibration Kit or Reference Calibration Kit. For high end ‘speaker’ correction (as distinct from room correction), it is recommended to use the Reference Calibration Kit that provides the Earthworks microphone. The Standard Calibration Kit proving the Beringher microphone has a 20kHz high-end correction limit—the HDP3 however will pass up to 40kHz
