The RC4 represents a truly full-range speaker that
leaves nothing to be desired and competes with other systems selling for
4-5x the cost. Each driver was selected to give the maximum performance
possible.
Operating as a 4-way speaker, the drivers include a powered 12"
side-mounted subwoofer, dual 8" woofers, a 5" midbass, and ribbon
tweeter. Each driver is operated in a very linear fashion to keep
distortion low and maintain smooth vertical and horizontal coverage.
To cover the critical midrange area we chose the Seas Excel 5" magnesium
cone midbass. The stiff cone yields amazing detail and allows a higher
crossover point to optimize the tweeter's operating range. The lower
midrange and upper bass are handled by two Seas 8" Excel magnesium cone
woofers. Why two drivers? The cone area is equal to a 12" woofer so a
great deal of air can be moved for exceptional dynamics without
sacrificing speed and detail.
The bottom octave is anchored by a Peerless 12" XXLS subwoofer powered
by a 500-watt amplifier. The included active crossover is designed to
smoothly integrate with the 8" woofers.
The top octaves are handled by a Fountek CD3.0 ribbon tweeter. The
ribbon has very smooth and extended response with excellent detail.
If you already have a subwoofer the RC4's design can be modified to
operate as a sealed box with no side-firing subwoofer or plate
amplifier. Please contact us for a quote if you're interested in this
option.

The Tanzanite is a 3-way reference monitor designed for high-end audio
and video systems. With a compact 17.5" x 9.5" x 12" cabinet you can
enjoy the virtues of a 3-way design in an enclosure normally reserved
for 2-way designs.
With a typical 7" 2-way both drivers are asked to do quite a bit of work
by covering a very wide frequency range. A 3-way reduces the demands on
each driver and each unit can be optimized for a more conservative
operating range. The result is wider dispersion and improved power
response, yielding a more realistic soundstage and excellent imaging.
Distortion is also lower so you can enjoy greater detail and dynamics.
Voiced to match the Sardonyx center channel, the Tanzanite is also fully
video shielded for placement near a CRT.

Assembled speakers
Because most of the cabinets are custom built to order we can offer a
variety of real wood veneers. The cost will vary according to what
species is selected; however, our pricing is very reasonable with a
small upcharge for Rosewood, Bubinga, Pau Ferro, and other exotic
veneers. To see what choices are available please visit
www.certainlywood.com . They are known for providing very high quality
products to cabinetmakers all around the world.
All standard cabinets are constructed from 3/4" MDF with 1" thick
baffles and have additional bracing to minimize panel resonances. Our
line array cabinets also utilize a multi-ply composite panel for their
side and rear sections to create a strong and inert enclosure.
The vertical edges on the front of our custom cabinets are composed of
solid hardwood chosen to match the particular veneer used. A radius is
applied to lower cabinet diffraction and enhance the visual appeal of
the speaker.
Our cabinets are sprayed with a conversion lacquer that has a low amount
of V.O.C. and is thus more friendly to the environment. This medium
gloss finish is durable and shows the natural beauty of the wood. We
proudly manufacture the majority of our cabinets here in North Carolina,
furniture capital of the USA! All speaker assembly is performed here as
well.
Kits
All kits come standard with cabinet plans, assembled crossovers,
drivers, 16awg stranded internal wiring, screws, damping material,
gold-plated terminal cups, and foam gasket tape. Solen polypropylene
capacitors, Eagle metal oxide resistors, and air core or 15awg steel
laminate core inductors (woofers only) are supplied as crossover parts
for the "standard" crossovers.
Mundorf, Mills, Goertz, and Clarity Cap components are used in the
"deluxe" crossovers in critical circuit path locations. Every situation
is different so we select the best components according to what's best
for that particular design. If you have any specific requests we'll do
our best to honor them.
Shipping
Prices include shipping for the lower 48 states in the USA. Other
locations quoted upon request. Assembled speakers and kits are usually
shipped via UPS (USPS for international shipments where possible). The
larger assembled systems (Alexandrite, XT8, RS8, RC5, and RC4 ) are
shipped by truck (USA/Canada) or ocean freight to other countries.
Where possible we use recycled packing materials and all assembled
speakers are double-boxed or crated to make sure that your order arrives
safely.
